To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EARNEST R. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salkum, in the county of Lewis and State of l/Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is a rein-holder, and has for its object to provide a device of this kind so constructed that the rein can be quickly and easily placed thereinto or removed therefrom, and also one which will securely hold the rein without interfering with or preventing the free movement of the animals head.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1. is a front elevation of the invention partly in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an edge view.

Referring specifically to the drawing, the frame of the holder comprises two spaced parallel side-bars 5 connected at one end by a loop 6 having an eye 7 to receive a supporting strap. The side-bars are spaced apart sufliciently to receive therebetween the rein S, and between said bars is mounted a stationary roller 9, and a spring-pressed movable roller 10, between which rollers the rein is placed.

The axle 11 of the roller is slidably mounted in grooves 12 made in the inner faces of the side-bars 5, and said axle carries a bar 13 which is arched over the roller. The arched bar is for the purpose of securing one end of the springs 14 which press the roller 10 toward the roller 9. The other ends of the springs are made fast to the loop.

The width of the loop is greater than the distance between the side-bars 5 and the grooves 12 open at one end into the loop as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The object of this construction is to permit the axle 11 of the roller 10 to be pulled out of the grooves 12 and with said roller carried into the loop'in order that the rein and the snap thereon can pass therethrough, after which the roller is replaced between the side-bars with the rein between said roller and the stationary roller 9. The springs press the roller 10 with sufficient force to hold the rein firmly but not enough to prevent the free movement of the animals head.

The rein can be readily inserted into or removed from the device by sliding the roller 10 back into the loop as herein described.

The device is simple in construction and therefore can be cheaply manufactured, and it effectually serves the purpose for which it is intended.

I claim A rein-holder comprising a frame, composed of spaced side-bars grooved on their inner faces and connected at one end by a loop into which the grooves open, the width of the loop being greater than the distance between the side-bars, a stationary roller mounted between the sidebars, and a roller slidably mounted in the grooves and springpressed toward the latter roller, between which rollers the rein is placed.
