To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs F. JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of `Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burial- Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in burial receptacles, such as cofiins, Gaskets, vaults and the like; and an object of my invention is to provide a receptacle of this character which will be comparatively light and yet strong` in construction.
Another object of my invention is to provide a receptacle of this character the interior of which will remain dry under all conditions of use.
A third object of my invention is to provide reinforced cement coffin with handles firmly and securely anchored and yet readily removable from the structure.
Other details of my construction will be alluded to hereinafter more particularly, in pointing out further novel features of my invention.

The body of the receptacle is made up of a wovernwire skeleton a of suitable mesh on both sides of which is placed the entitious material t. At suitable intervals the woven wire frame a is provided with stays c which serve to sti'lfen the frame and to make the whole receptacle retain its shape. The upper edge d of the body portion is formed with a series of sockets c into which is poured molten lead Into the latter, when cold, are screwed the lag-screws g having a tip 7L of brass or other suitable metal. The lagscrews g serve to hold the top i in place.
At suitable intervals, U-shaped carrierbands pass under the body of the receptacle and through holes 7c in the upper or free ends of these carrier-bands pass the eye-boltsmthe threaded end of which extends into the interior of the coffin and is there held by a nut n. Extending through the eye end of the bolts m on each side is a handle-bar 0, which may be slipped out of the eyes, after removing one of the ornamental knobs or heads p. The carrier-bands j hold the coffin up from the bottom of the grave a sufficient distance to enable the loweringl straps to be readily pulled out, after the coffin has been placed.
The top e' is made in two parts which fit closely together at the joint g. The latter is a lap joint and is sealed by pouring in between the meeting edges of the two parts of the cover a suitable cement. It will be understood that the top i is made of reinforced cementitious material. Upon a suitable ledge 1 formed about an opening in the head part of the top er cover i is placed the face glass s and over the latter is fastened by the lag-screws t the face-glass cover or lid u, the joint between which and the top i is sealed by pouring into it liquid cement.
The interior of the receptacle is lined with lead foil o as a finish and to exclude moisture. The lead foil is placed while the cement is still wet and before it has set.
I claim:
In a burial receptacle of the character described, the combination with a body portion made of reinforced cementitious material, of U-shaped carrier bands which extend beneath said body portion; eye-bolts the shank portions of which are fastened in said body portion and which pass through said carrier bands and thereby hold the latter in place and handle-bars which pass through the eye ends of said eye-bolts.
