Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 1908.
Application filed December 23, 1907. Serial No. 407,760.
To all whom it may concern! Be t known that I, FRIEDERICKE DANNER,
a citizen of the United States, and .a resident of Madison, in the county of New Haven and- State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comb- Cleaners, of which the following is a specificatron.
The present invention relates to a device for cleaning combs. v
It is a well known fact that in combing the hair of a person, the dust and other foreign matter adhering to the same is taken off by the comb and collects in the spaces between the teeth of the comb. Since the hair is in most of the cases treated wit-h fat substances,
such as oil or other similarmaterial and since, on the other hand through the pores of the head fat substances are exuded, it is obvious that these fat substances mingle with the dust and foreignmatter, collected in the hair, and when now the dust an foreign matter is taken off by the comb, it will together with the fat substance-form ,a solid mass. which fills out to a certain extent the spa ccs between the teeth of the comb.
The present invention provides a device which removes the foreign matter from the comb in a quick and easy way. This device consists of a plurality of threadsor hair held together by suitable means, such as corrugated plates, so as to form a strap-like device, one end of which may be attached to a suit able bracket or holder, and the otherend may be taken hold of by the person cleaning the comb.
The device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 illustrates a front elevation of the device, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of the same.
1 indicates a plurality of threads or hair, all of which are of substantially the same length, and are placed in one plane so as to form a strap. One end of the hair is placed between a base plate 2 and a holding plate 3, which are corrugated, as shown in the drawings. These plates are secured together by screws 4 and nuts 5, and hold thereby the hair in place.-
in turn. are firmly securedto eacho'ther by The other end of the hair is in a similar way held by plates 6 and 7, which,
screws 4 and nuts 5. It is obvious that by these meansa hair-stra" is formed, the hairelements of which are he d at their respective ends, and are allowed-to mov'e crosswise whereby the. teeth of a comb may be inserte between the same, which comb may move longitudinally. I
8 indicates a hook, integral with or in any suitable way secured to one of the plates 2 or 3, by means of which the strap mayf be attached to a suitableholdin device. One of the plates 6 or v7 is provided with a handle 9, by means of which the operator takeshold of the device.
The operator, having grasped the handle, presses t 1e comb 1 0 against the hair-strap 1, whereby the hair of the same engages a plurality of teeth s aces, dependingon the width of the strap. hen nowthe comb is drawn longitudinally on the strap forwards and back several times, the foreign matter, filling the teeth'spaces, is inan'easy way taken 05 the comb. It is obvious that by repeating this operation through the whole length of the comb the foreign matter will be taken off in threeor four operations, the number of operations depending on the length of the comb and the width of thehair-strap.
It' will be noticed that other means may beused forholding the hair in a strap-like structure than the one disclosed herein,- and that instead of hair or thread any other suitable means may be rovided, such as wire, strings or other suita le strips, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
'hat I claim is 2- 1. In an article of. manufacture, the combination with a corrugated base plate,*of a corrugated holding plate, a plurality. of-
threads held between said plates so as to form a strap, and a similar base plate and holdin plate engaging the opposite end, of said between said plates so as to form a strap, a
similar base pla-te-ant'l holding plate engaging the opposite end of said strips, and means for.
securing said holding plates to the base plates respect vely,
3. 111 an article of manufacture, the com- .base plate and holding plate engaging the.- opposlteend of said hair, a hook secured to bination with a corrugated base plate, of a corrugated holding plate, hair held, between York, and State of New York, this 19th day said plates so as to form a strap, a similar of December, A. D. 1907.
