JPATENTED JULY 14, 1908.
A. PIASER. FOLDING BED. APELIUATIOR FILED OUT. 23,1907.
W/TIVESSES To all whom it may concern il l l ABRAHAM PIASER, 01 NEW YORK, It.
FOLDING Specification of Letters E's/tent.
Patented July let, ions.
Application filed. October 23, 1997. ilerioi No. film/hi1.
Be it known that l, Asrilrnmr PIASER, a subject of the Czar oi Russia, and s'rcsident ol' the city of New York, horou h of the Bronx, in tho county and State of how York, have invented rinew and improved Folding Bed of whirh the following is a full, clear, and onset description.
This invention relates to folding beds, and more particularly to articles of this character fashioned from metal.
An ohjeotof the invention is to rovido a. simple, strong and incx onsivs folding bed which can he quickly uni easily extended. for use, anilwhirhcan he folded into a small and compact forn1.
Afurthor ob ect of the invention is to provides dovice of the class described, the parts of which, when the bed is extended, are socurely looked against accidental movement, and in which the weight of the user acts to hold the ports in position.
A still further object oi the invention is to rovidc siolding bod so constructed that -the iolding sections are locked against casual movomcnt when in an operative or extended position, and certain of which are s'lso'loclrod against occidental displacement when in a folded osition.
- The invention consists in the construction and combination of ports to be more full doscrihod hereinafter and particularly set iorth in the claims.
Reference is to he had to tho accompanying drawings forming a part of this specific-iv tion, in. which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding ports in rill the views, and in which l iguro l. is n porspoctivc view of the l'olding bod, showing the some in its oxtonded or operative arrangement tion showing the bod wheniolded, undhuving' a port broken away Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal section of one of the joints; of the bod; nod l ig. 4- is :1V similar viomoi m iolher joint. I
lioloro proceeding to :L morn detailed oxplonntion oi my invonliou it should he undorstood that tho szuno is purticdnrly useful inroiinortion witlrl'olding hodfs, though it is also :uluptod [or application to ol'hor orti clcsol' l'ili'iiili1i'o,siu-l1 l or instiiiu-o, 1th com-hos, ottoiniius, and tho liko. The bed can ho Fig. 2 is :1. side eievufashioned from on); suitable nistoriol, such us wrought-iron, brass or tho hlco. A
spring of the usual typo can be cinploysdror, 1i so desired, or special canvas support for n,
mattress can he used.
My invention rosidos primarily, in the construction of the frame of the boil, and certain of the details can be varied without departs ing from tho underlying principle of the invention.
Rcforring more particularly to the drnwings, I provide nframe having sectional sides 1, fashioned prsl'i-iriihly from strip metal and each comprising two adjacent middle soctions 2 connected at their inner 'ends by moons of 9. suitable joint 3, and having st their outer suds siinilur joints 4 by means of which tlinff nro secured to end sections 5. The outer extremities of the end soothing; 5 are joined by end braces or rails S profsrzihl y' of roundedcrosssoction and having the ends arranged in. suitable openings of the end soctions 5, At one ond of the ironic is u hoard 7 comprising cross iooes 8 and sides 9; tho latter have tho onus laterally disposed and pivotally secured to tho ond rails 5 by moons of screws or bolts i The arrangement is such that when tho head is opcrstivcly on? tsndod it is held in oosition by the crossbroco 6. it can ho to dod substantially into the piano oi the ond sections 5', us indinoted in dotted outline in Fig. 2. fit the opposits ooil of the ironic is s. foot ll similnr in form to the hood Tthough preferablysoinowhat smaller. ltwiil ho undorslimd that tho form of the hood and tho foot of tho folding bed can be varied to suit individual ronvonionco and taste, the nrietliod of attaching these ports to the end rails salons, being of importance in ronnoction with, in invontion.
The joints l comprise similar plates 12 having roundod portions 13 and laterally om tended portions 14. The sections 2 are socurod' at one and solution the laterally o1;- tondod portions l lof the joints -l and are. rigidly attached thereto by moons oi hull-s or rivots 'lho ond sections 5 how laterally disposed OKl-i'fllllitios iii whirhoro pivoted hy lilonns of suitzihlo srrows or hol 5; l7 hetwoon tho oxtoudod portions 13 of the joints;'
Logs 1H ziro pivolod zit iho joints h) moons of hoods '19 which are. mo'mhly arranged hi screws or rivets 25. and between the sections is arranged a pin or leg abuts against tended until they'are parallel to the, sections 2,- thereby permitting the extension of the sides of the bed into a substantially horizontai position. The legs 18 "can be folded against the sections tions 2 at the upper sides thereof;
,The center joints 3 comprise similar plates 22,.having the upper edges flattened and carrying ivotally between them,,the center legs 23. hose are mounted in position by means of screws or rivets 24. The inner extremities of the sections 2 are laterally disposed and are pivotally arranged between the plates 22 of the center joints, by means of Above the center leg stud 26 joining the plates 22 and constituting a stop to hold thesections extended. The latter have edge recesses to receive the stop when the arts are extended, as is shown most clear y in Fig. 4. Thus the stop 26 of each joint 3 serves to limit the movement of the adjacent sections 2 when the frame is extended. When the bed is folded up, the sections 2 are arranged at the opposite sides of the center legs and adjacent thereto. At the same time, the ends of the legs 18 extend between the plates of the joints 4- and are thereby locked in position, as is shown most clearly in Fig; 2. v The opposite legs 18 and 23 are joined by sifiitable cross-bars 27;
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
