UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BARTON C. Y. BROWN, 01 LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
CAMP-STOOL.
Application filed July 29,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BARTON C. Y. BROWN, a. citizen of the United States, and resident of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a. new and Improved Camp-Stool, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in campstools, an object of the invention being to provide an improved collapsible stool of this type, embodying new features of construction, which tend to vmake the stool strong, and durable in use, and yet light in weight.
A still further object is to provide a camp stool which will be comparatively simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved camp stool set up and ready for use.
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation thereof showing the stool in partially folded position.
Fig. 3 is another view in side elevation showing the stool folded.
Fig. 4 is a. view in front elevation of a stool in folded position, and
Fig. 5 is a view in elevation taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring in detail to the drawings, my improved stool comprises a. seat portion 1, which is supported on a pair of parallel leg members 2. and a single leg member 3 pivotally connected to the legs 2 at their intermediate portions, and located therebetween. All three of the leg members are formed of fiat boards, and the leg 3 entirely fills the space between the legs 2. A red at located transversely of all of the legs as shown in Fig. 1, provides the pivotal connection. Cross pieces 5 and 6 connect the parallel leg members 2.
The seat 1 is hinged at one end to the upper end of the parallel leg members 2. lVhile the seat may be hinged to the legs in various ways, I prefer the method illustrated, wherein a strip of sheet metal 7 is secured across the edge of the seat 1 and provided with a pair of integral depending Specification of Letters Patent.

ears 8, which are pivotally secured to the outer edges of the legs 2.
A pair of folding braces 9 connect the outer edges of the legs 3 with the inner edges of the legs 2 limiting the pivotal movement of the legs on the rod 4, and the inner edges of the legs 2 are provided with recesses 10 which accommodate the braces 9 when the stool is in folded position.
The cross piece 5 is located between the upper ends of the legs 2, and is substantially half the thickness of the legs, so that when the stool is folded, the cross piece 5 will fit snugly within a recess 11 provided in the upper end of the leg 3, as shown clearly in Fig. 5. If desired, the free edge of the seat may be strengthened by a strip of sheet metal 12.
In operation, the method of folding the stool will be readily understood. In Fig. 1, the braces 9 are in extended position and the free edge of the seat 1 is resting on the upper end of the leg 3. To fold the stool, the free edge of the seat is elevated, the braces 9 are collapsed, the legs are swung together on the rod 4 until the cross piece 5 is located in the recess 11, and the braces 9 located in the recess 10. The seat 1 is then swung downwardly into the position shown in Fig. 5, the seat being parallel with and located against all three legs so that the stool is compactly folded.
lVhile I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A camp stool, comprising a pair of parallel leg members, arod positioned transversely through said members, a third leg member pivotally supported on said rod between. said parallel leg members, a seat hinged to the upper end of the parallel leg members, folding braces connecting the outer edges of said third leg member with the inner edges of said parallel leg members, and limiting the pivotal movement of all the leg members on the rod, and said parallel leg members having recesses therein receiving said braces in folded position.
