To all whom it may concern:
Be It known that I, WILLIAM H. Voss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of.
. Davenport, in the county of Scott and State able elevation by legs a, and
of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Movements for Washing-Machines," of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
My invention relates to the actuating mechanism of washing machines, and its obj ect is to provide means for utilizing the momentum of a fly-wheel to assist in actuating a stirrer-shaft driven by a reciprocating lever and particularly the reversing movement of said shaft and thus greatly assist in rendering the manual working of the machine less arduous. This I accomplish by the mechanism hereinafter fully described and as particularly pointed out in the claims.

The lower end of beam K extends to a suitablepoint below the plane of the bottom of the tub, and is connected by a pitman N to the crank-pin of gear 0, journaled on a stud projecting laterally from the lower extremity of an L-shaped hanger I, which latter is secured to and depends down from the bottom of the tub. T his gear 0 engages a pinion 1' on the adjacent end of a horizontal shaft Q, journaled in bearings in the angle or bend of the hanger P, and in bearings R depending from the bottom of the tub near its circumference, and has a suitable flywheel T secured to its outer end.
