OTTO EVERTZ, OF KEYTESVILLE, MISSOURI.
HARNESS ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1908.
Application filed February 24, 1908. Serial No. 417,563.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO EVERTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Keytesville, in the county of Ohariton and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is, to equip a harness, which has no means for carrying the traces or breeching, with a removable device, for these purposes; and which can be easily connected to, or detached from the harness.
The use of this device, renders it unnecessary to keep two or three different sets of harness, made, as is usually done, with permanent breeching and hip straps.
The accompanying drawing illustrates th various features of the invention, its different parts being referred to bynumeral characters.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a plan view of the device, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal, side view of the same.
The numeral 5, designates the back piece, or guard, to one end of which is attached a strap 7, and at required points, the keepers 8 and 12. These keepers may be made of any suitable material, but I prefer to make them of metal or other rigid substance, and to secure them in place with rivets. As shown in the drawing, these keepers are made of metal, and are formed in two pieces, a base and a loop. The base plate 9, of the keeper 8, for instance, is slightly raised along its middle part, and is riveted longitudinally on the guard 5, and an arched plate 10 extends across the base 9, having its ends bent under, and held securely by said base plate. The keeper 12 is similarly constructed, but the rivets holding its base plate, pass through the upper part of the strap 7, and the guard 5 as shown thus fastening the strap 7 to the guard 5.
l The strap 7 is passed through a ring 14 on the crupper l5, and then turned back upon itself and passed down through the keepers 8 and 12. The lower end of this strap 7, is engaged by a buckle 16, on the upper end of a loop 18, adapted to loosely carry a trace or the breech ing of the harness. The end of the strap 7 is disposed in another keeper 20, on this loop 18. This keeper 20, is preferably made of leather.
It is evident, without further explanation, that this attachment as thus described, may be easily attached to, or detached from, the crupper strap; and that it is strong and economically constructed in all of its parts.
I do not limit myself to the exact proportions and adjustment of the different parts of this device, but reserve the right to vary these to a reasonable extent, within the scope of the claims.
What I claim and desire to secure, is-
A harness attachment comprising a guard, a strap secured to the upper end of said guard, keepers composed of longitudinally disposed base plates, one of which is riveted through an end of said strap, to said guard, the other one of said plates bein riveted directly to said uard, said base p ates having arched cross p ates with their ends bent under said base plates, said strap adapted to be looped into a part of the crupper, then passed downwardly through said keepers, a carrying loop, and a buckle on said carrying loop to engage the lower end of said strap, as de- J scribed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
