Specicationof Letters Patent. I Application filed May 20,` 19137. YSerial No. 374,561.
Patented .time 1e, 190s.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that i, HARALD C. Pnonnsnn, a subject of the King of Norway, residing vat New York, borough of N ew York and State of-New York,'have inventedcertain new and useful improvements in Cigarette-Cases; and' i do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
lenact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to 'which it appertains, to make and use the saine, rei-A erenee being had to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speci-tication.
This invention lrelates toa cigarette holder, and is designed to rovide a casefibr carrying the cigarettes in t e pocket without breaking them, and-'provides a holder that iits within the case and is attached to the pivot thereof, and presents the cigarettes so that they are easy of access and can beslid from their sired.
The invention further consists in installing such a holder on the ivot of the lids forming the case, and to holdPthe-holder equi-distant from the lids when they are shut or open, or in any position, and thus when the case is setdown, the holdermaintains its vertical position and acts as a stand.
The invention provides a means for maintaining. these relative ositions oi the 'elemerits of the holder, an also means for maintaining the cigarettes'in the holder, and pre vents their accidental falling out.
The invention isl illustrated in the accompanying drawin s, in which Fignre'l is a ongitudinal vertical section through the lidsi'orrning the case, and also through the holder showing the lids opened and surporting the holder, thereby forming' astan Fi 2 is 'a face view of the holder rand the insi e of one lid, the hinges ofr the other lid being shown insection.4 Fig. 3 is a top view of the holder, and Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the holder, the views of the holder showing it detached from the lids of the case. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a detail showing the connection between the holder and the hinge oi' the lids iorming the case.
In my invention the case is formed oi'the lids l() and 1l which are. pivoted on the pins 12 which run in from each side as shown in of Bronx, in the county place in the holder endwise, if de.
Fig. 2,' these. removable pins provide, as
be Vhtri-iinafter set forth, for the removal of .the cigarette holder, the lids b eing permanently secured together at 13, the spring shown in dotted outline in Fig. 2, at this point, acting to normally throw the lids 10 and 11 apart. This construction is common Ito articles of this kind, and is therefore not described in detail.
theA eyes 14,' each of which has a shank and the ate 15, these plates` 15 being. secured to the bottom of the cigarette holder, the oiga,- rette holder having, on opposite sides, the recesses 17, shown in Figs-2. and 3, which receive the'cigarettes 18. Bearin side 'of the cigarettes and hol ingvthem in place in the recesses, are the two win s 19 which can be suitably ornamented, an are eing normally forced in engagement with clearly shown in Fig. 4. The eyes 14 on the hinge, it will be seen, thus provide for a'pivetal relation between the l1ds 10 and 11 and the cigarette holder.
To each of the lids 10 and 1,1 respectively, Aare secured 'the wings 23 and 24, see Figs. 1 and5, which fit into the turned over edges of the bracket 25, which has secured thereto a tubular upright post 26. Fittinginto this tubular post is arod 27, the upper'end of which is encircled by a spring 2,9, the spring the bottom of the cigarette hol er.` When rod and the tubular post are inserted in the s )ring is overcome and the eyes 14 are putin p ace,'and then the pins 12 are slid 1n, as shown in Fig. 2, I together, the holder, being under a constant spring action whichkeeps the bracket' 25 in pulling, however, not being sulic'ient to overcome the tendency force the lids apart. 4 y
It will be seen from this description that this device, as it is constructed, holds the .cigarette holder, at all times, equi-distant Vfrom the lids, in other words centrally, by
bracket 2.5, the bracket preventing any tilton, the out- A pivotedby means of4 the leyes 20 and 21 and I the cigarettes by the spring 22. This is more' cigarette hol-der, then the pressure of the.
and the parts are thus held Neat1 each end of the hinge are arranged* and most of the tubular post 26 being inserted in a recess 28 having its o en end on the` parts are assembled, /this spring with its engagement with the wlngs 23 and 24, this l100. of the spring, at 13,v to
the action of the wings23 and 24 and the 10 yFor engaging the lids :it the hinge to limit their outward movement, the limiting means ecting to hold the holder centra-l to the lids when they are swung apart.
21A cigarette ces.y comprising e )air of 15 hinged lids, e holder within the lits end pivotelly secured to the hinge of the lids at the-hinge, wings on the lids, end e, bracket secured to the holder and resting on the hingen-nd `having turned over ends to eni- 20 brace thewings to limit the movement of the l lids.
3. A cigarette `cese comnising e 1pair ol hinged'lldsfxa holder pivote ly secure( to the hinge of the lids, the holder having an upwardly extending recess therein, e. bracket having a. tubular post in the recess. e spring between the post and the end of 'the recess, the bracket having turned over ends, and n Wing en each lid arranged to enter the turned over ends of the bracket tohold the bracket f central to the hinge.
4. A c'igarette case com )rising a. pair of hinged lids, a cigarette he der p ivotally secured to .the hinge of the lids, e bracket on the holder, the bracket having turned over ends, `and Wings on the lids arranged to enter the turned over ends of the bracket to limit the movement of the lids and to hold the holder central to the lids. v
1n testimony, that I claim the foregoing,
l hev'ehereunto set my hand this 18th day of Mey 1907.
