" To all whom it may concern:

'Be it known that I, ALEXANDER H. Ko- PE'rscHNY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved. Scapular- Ring, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved scapular ring normally resembling an ordinary signet ring but with a scapular concealed therein, and arrangedto permit of readily displaying the scapular whenever it is desired to. do so.

In order to produce the desired result,'use is made of an annular band having a signet top provided in its upper face with a recess, a cover hinged on the said top and overlying the edge of the wall of the said recess at the time the cover is in closed position, and a scapular plate normally concealed within the said recess and mounted to swing on the pintle of the hinge for the said cover.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the scapular ring with the parts in closed position;

Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same on the line 22 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the scapular ring with the cover open and the scapular located within the recess of the signet top of the ring.

The plain annular band 10 of the scapular ring is provided with a signet top ll p rovlded in its upper surface with a recess 12, the wall 13 of which is preferably made annular and is provided with a cut-out portion 14: in which extends a hinge pintle 15 secured at its ends to the wall 13. The pin tle 15 is engaged by depending eyes 16 of a cover 17 adapted to close the recess 12 and to overlie the top of the wall 13. The edge of the cover 17 is flush with the exterior surface of the signet top 11 and the cover is in the form of a very thin disk or plate so time does not unduly portion provided in its that when the cover is in aclosed position the signet appearance of the top of the ring is maintained.

The pintle 15 is engaged by an eye 18 formed on the edge of a scapular 19, preferably in the form of a flat plate or disk, provided on one or both faces with legends or figures symbolic of its use as a scapular. The scapular 19 extends within the recess 12 and is hence completely concealed at the time the cover 17 is closed, but the scapular can be readily exposed whenever it is desired to do so by swinging the cover 17 and the scapular 19 into an open position. The under side of the cover 17 is preferably provided with a catch 20 adapted to engage the inner face of the wall 13 so as to normally hold the cover 17 locked when in closed position. The wall 13 is provided with a small notch 21 adjacent the point of engagement of the catch 20 with the wall 13 so that a finger nail can be readily engaged with the cover 17 to swing the latter into open position.

From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described the ring normally resembles an ordinary signet ring and is worn as such with the scapular concealed therein, but when it is desired to display the scapular it is onlynecessary to swing the cover 17 in an open position to disclose the scapular and to allow swinging it also into an open position if desired.

It is further understood that by providing but a single hinge for both the cover and the scapular 19, the construction of the scapular ring is simplified and at the same mar the signet portion of the ring.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters A scapular ring, comprising an annular band having a thickened and widened top outer face with a depression or recess to the upper edge of which the said widened portion extends, the wall of which is provided at one side with a cut-out portion, a hinge pintle attached to the said wall and extending in the said outout portion, the pintle ranglng in a direction transverse to the axis of the said band, a thin flat and flangeless cover having on its inner face depending and spaced hinge eyes engagsignet top, and a scapular plate having an ing the said pintle, the said cover being eye engaging the said pintle between the adapted to overlie the said Wall to close the eyes of the cover, the said scapular plate 10 said recess, and provided on its inner face being normally concealed Within the said With a catch engaging the inner face of the recess.
