To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, LOUIS F. KALTwAssER, United States, residing at Belleville, county of St. Clair, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Sanitary Display and Cover Attachment for Barrels, Jars, and other Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of an attachment for a barrel or other receptacle adapted to permit the contents of the latter to be viewed` and inspected, while avoiding handling of said contents, and also preventing access of dust, dirt, and disease spreading germs thereto.

Figures l and 2 represent perspective views of an attachment embodying my invention. Fig. 3 represents a bottom plan view of a member of the attachment. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 represent perspective views of modifications.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a barrel of usual construction, and B designates the head thereof, the same having centrally therein, the opening C, whereby access may be had to the contents of the barrel.

In order to attach the head to the body of the barrel, l employ the clips D, which are of angular form, so as to embrace the upper chime of the barrel and provided with screws E which pass through the outer limbs of the clips and are adapted to tighten against the body of the barrel.

On the under Side of the head are slotted plates F, which receive headed bolts G which are connected with the top plates of the clips D, by which provision the head ma be nicelyadjusted on the body and tightly secured thereto.

H designates a clip which is also attachable to the chime of the barrel and head B, its outer limb having a vertical slot J therein, to receive the bolt K, with which is connected the prop L, whose upper end is hinged to the tray M, the latter being secured to and radiating from the head B, it being evident, that owing to the hinged connection of the prop L with the tray M, and the attachment of said prop with bolt K, and the permitted play of the latter in the slot J of the clip H,

the prop may be nicely adjusted to support the tray M, said bolt K h N thereon for tightening P designates a device or receptacle for displaying goods therein, the goods being of a nature of those in the barrel, said device also covering the opening C, and preventing improper access to the latter. Said device is constructed of a hollow body composed of a transparent side Q, a tranparent top R, a closed bottom S, and rims which connect said parts. Connected with the bottom rim T, is an angular rod U, whose side limbs are slidingly fitted in parallel guides V, which are secured to the upper side of the head B, it being noticed that by this provision the receptacle P may be moved from the position as shown in Fig. l to that shown in Fig. 2.

The angular rod U vconstitutes a frame which is adapted to move with the receptacle P, its side members being fitted in the guides V, so as to slide therein, and its cross meniber being adapted to abut against shoulder V on the terminals of said guides so as to limit the motion of said receptacle, as will be understood from Fig. 2.

In the position shown in Fig. l, the receptacle covers the opening C, so that access to the contents of the barrel is prevented, and dirt and dust are excluded therefrom, while improper handling of said contents is also prevented, see again Fig. l.

ien access is desired to the contents of the barrel, the receptacle is moved back, and placed upon the tray M, where it is properly supported, and the opening C is uncovered, see Fig. 2, the effect of which is evident.

The top of the receptacle is sloped to the front, so that contents of the receptacle may be displayed to the best advantage.

In Figs. l and 2, the rece tacle and the opening O, are of cylindrical fdrm, in Fig. 4, the receptacle and opening are of angular form.

In Fig.- 5, the receptacle is shown as connected with the head B by the parallel links properly aving a nut purposes.

In Fig. 6, the receptacle is provided with an ear X, which is pivotally mounted on the being attached to the head B so that the receptacle may be turned laterally to and from its operative position.

In order to hold the receptacle temporarily in place over the opening C, I employ the catch Z, which is connected with the same and adapted to engage a kee er Z on the head B, but any other suitable iastening may be employed in lieu of the same.

lVhile I have specified certain means for carrying out my improvements, I do not wish to be limited exactly to the same, but desire to make such changes as may come within the scope or' the novelty involved. For instance, the rece tacle may be formed of transparent materia other than glass and only the top or side made transparent, so that the contents of the receptacle are visible at either place.

IIaving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A display device composed of a hollow body having a transparent wall, a head attachable to a receptacle and having an opening therein, a movable support and guide for said device connected with-the same and said head constructed to allow said body to be moved bodily to a position to uncover the entire top of the receptacle and adapted to seat said body over said opening and support the same when moved to its uncovering position and a fixed support for the display device extended beyond the periphery of the receptacle.

2. In a display device for a receptacle, a head with an opening therein, means for attaching said head. to said receptacle, a display device composed of a hollow body having a transparent wall,` movable members connecting said body with said head constructed to allow said body to be moved bodily to a position to uncover the entire top of the receptacle and adapted to seat said body over said opening and support it when moved to a position uncovering said opening and a iiXed support for the display device eX- tended beyond the periphery of the receptacle.

3. A display device for a receptacle, the same having a frame to which it is attached, said frame designed for non-rotatable movable connection with the head of a receptacle, and a 'liXed support for said device when moved into its outermost position said support being extended beyond the periphery of the receptacle.

4. A display device attachable to a receptacle and having a transparent wall, a nonrotatable frame movable with said device, a

guide for said frame in which it is mounted to slide, and means movable with said frame for locking said device in its position over an opening in the receptacle.

5. A display device attachable to a receptacle and having a transparent wall, a nonrotatable frame movable with said device, a

guide for said frame in which it is mounted to slide, means movable with said frame for locking said device in its position over an opening in the receptacle, and a support independent of said guide beyond the wall of the receptacle for supporting said device when moved to its uncovering position.

6. A slidingly mounted display device, a frame movable therewith, a guide for said frame, means movable with the frame for locking it in position over an opening in the receptacle, means for limiting the sliding movement of said trame in one direction, and means independent of said guide and braced from the receptacle lor supporting the said device in its limit of movement in the opposite direction.

7. A slidingly mounted display device, a non-rotatable frame movable therewith, a guide for said frame, means for limiting the sliding movement of said frame in one direction, means independent of said guide and braced from the receptacle for supporting the said device in itslimit of movement in the opposite direction, and a locking member movable with said device to engage iXed means on the head of the" receptacle.

A slidingly mounted display device, a non-rotatable frame` movable therewith, a guide for said frame, means for limiting the sliding movement of said frame in one direction, means for supporting the said device in its limit of movement in the opposite direction, and a prop hinged to said supporting means. i

9. A display'device for a receptacle comprising a head' with means for attachment to a receptacle, guides on the upper face of said head', a non-rotatable frame movable in said guides, a display device carried by said frame, and means carried by said head for supporting said device beyond the area of an opening in said head. v

10. A display device for a receptacle, the latter having'a separate head, means for connecting said head with said receptacle, means forslidably connecting said device with said head whereby said device may be bodily moved beyond the area of an opening in the receptacle, a tray adapted to sustain said device in inoperative position, and means for connecting said tray with said head and supporting it on said receptacle.
