To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ROBERT L. MoCoRD, of Lake City, in the county of Calhoun and State of Iowa, and JAMES B. MoCoRD, formerly of the same place, but now residing at Durban, Natal, South Africa, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cots and Bath-Tubs, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to frames for holding the canvas or other fabric bottoms of cots and has for its object the provision of a frame made of two mating sections between which the fabric is clamped so that. it may be readily removed from the frame when desired and the fabric may be adjusted to suit the comfort of the user, being stretched to make it springy or allowed to hang loose so that the bottom is like a hammock.

The details of construction will be particularly described and other advantages of our invention explained hereinafter and its structural features illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side view of our invention showing it for use as a cot or bed, Fig. 2, a top plan view, Fig. 3, a cross sectional View, Fig. 4, a view of the base frame before the fabric is secured in position, Fig. 5, a view of the clamping frame, Fig. 6, a detail view of one of the clamps, and Fig. 7, a side view showing the device in use as a bath tub.

In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The cot frame comprises a base portion A consisting of a rectangular frame B, made preferably of sheet metal bent to form a V- shaped channel C, said frame B being supported by legs D. If desired the long sides of the frame B may be strengthened by means of cross-brace E.

F indicates a clamping frame made in the same shape and of the same size as the frame B being V-shaped in cross section, and G represents the fabric bottom clamped between frames B and F. The bottom G may be made of canvas, oil cloth or of any other selected material.

H indicates the clamps for holding the frame F in a clamping position each of which consists of an angular rod I of which the short arm i engages the top of frame F While the other end of the rod is screw-threaded and has adjustably mounted thereon an angular plate J having a hole therein to receive the threaded end of rod I. Plate J engages the lower end of frame B when the clamp is in position and the clamp is tightened by means of a nut K mounted on the screw-threaded portion of the rod I.

It will be readily understood that as the cot is assembled by clamping the fabric bottom G between frames B and F, the bottom may be changed as often as desired for cleanliness while at the same time the bottom may be adjusted to suit the convenience and comfort of the user.

It will be readily apparent that our invention is particularly well adapted for use in hospitals and sick rooms inasmuch as the bottom is capable of adjustment to fit any deformities of the patient and of cutting if necessary to prevent pressure on tender parts, bed sores, etc., as well as frequent changing for cleanliness and destruction when necessary to prevent spread of contagious diseases without requiring the destruction of the frame which may be washed to cleanse it of contagion. It will also be understood that as the frames B and F are. made of metal and. when in an assembled position fit each other snugly there are no inaccessible cracks as in the ordinary form of cots to harbor vermin.

In Fig. 7 is shown another use to which our invention can be put in which G represents a fabric of any water-proof material loosely secured between frames B and F, so'as to form a bath tub. I 4

Having thus described our invention what we claim is 1. In a combined cot and bath tub, mating clamping frames, a length of fabric secured between said frames, and means to hold said frames in a clamping position, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a combined cot and bath tub, a base frame having a channel therein, a clamping frame shaped to fit in said channel, a length of fabric secured between said frames, and means to hold the frames in a clamping position, substantially as shown and described.

3. In a combined cot and bath tub, a base frame having a continuous V-shaped channel therein, a frame V-shaped in cross-section to fit said base frame, a length of fabric secured between said frames, and means to hold the frames in a clamping position, substantially as shown and described.

4. In a combined cot and bath tub, a channeled base frame having legs secured thereto, a clamping frame shaped to fit in said channeled base frame, a length of fabric secured between said frames, and means to hold the frames in a clamping position, substantially as shown and described.

5. In a combined cot and bath tub, a base frame of rectangular shape and formed with a continuous V-shaped channel, legs secured to said frame, a rectangular frame V-shaped in cross section to fit said base frame, a length of fabric secured between said frames, and means to hold the frames in a clamping position, substantially as shown and described.

6. In a combined cot and bath tub, in combination with two mating frames, and a length of fabric secured therebetween, clamps for holding said frames in a clamping position consisting of angular rods, an angular plate adjustably mounted on each rod, and means to secure said plates in position, substantially as shown and described.

7. In a combined cot and bath tub, in combination with two mating frames, and a length of fabric secured therebetween, clamps for holding said frames in a clamping position consisting of angular rods having screw threaded ends, an angular plate adjustably mounted on each rod, and a nut mounted on the screw-threaded end and engaging the angular plate to hold it in an adjusted position, substantially as shown and described.

8. In a combined cot and bath tub, the combination of a channeled base frame, a mating clamping frame, and a length of fabric secured therebetween, and clamps for holding said frames together each consisting of an angular rod having a screw-threaded end, an angular plate adjustably mounted on said rod, and a nut to engage said plate, the bent portion of said rod and plate engaging the clamping frame and base frame respectively, substantially as shown and described.

9. In a combined cot and bath tub, the combination of a rectangular base' frame having a continuous V -shaped channel therein, a rectangular clamping frame V- shaped in cross-section to fit into said base frame, a length of fabric secured between said frames, and clamps for holding said frames together each consisting of an angular rod having a screw-threaded end, an angular plate adjustably mounted on said rod, and a nut to engage said plate, the bent portions of said rod and plate engaging the clamping frame and base frame respectively, substantially. as shown and described.

10. In a combined cot and bath tub, a rectangular, channeled base frame, a rectangular clamping frame shaped to fit snugly the base frame, a length of fabric removably, replaceably and adjustably secured between said frames so as to form the bottom of the cot when stretched tightly or form the bath tub when secured loosely between said frames, and clamps removably secured to said frames to hold them in a position to secure the fabric bottom therebetween, substantially as shown and described.

11. In a combined cot and bath tub, the combination of two mating rectangular clamping frames vertically disposed, a length of fabric secured between said frames, and means to hold said frames in a clamping position, substantially as shown and described.
