' The ollow section 3 is preferably ion tudinelly divided, being for-med of two 811%)- stantially semicylindrical sections 4 and 5, thus adapting said hollow section of the handle to be conveniently manufactured by ordinary types of wood-working-machines. The meeting edges of the'sections 4 and 5 at oneside are recessed for a portion of the length thereof to provide a longitudinal slot 6, and such sections 4 and 5 are united at their end portions by caps 7s and 8'securedi 7el in any suitable manner thereto to hold the sections firmly united, the cap 8 being apera tured to "form a ferrule and provide a. passage for the rod 1. Atv the ends of the slot 6 the sections 4 and 5 are further reinforced and connected by suitable means, such as a clam ingf band 9 and a cross-bolt 10, for whic 1 latter a hand 11 similar to the-hand 9 may be substituted, as shown 5. By employingthe band 11 shown in Fig. 5 in place of the cross-bolt 10, the necessity of bifurcating the rear end of the rod section 18 scenes avoided, but either construction may be advantageously employed. By theuse of the means employed for connecting the semi- 'cylindrical halves of the hollow section 3,
such section may be easily and economically manutacturedwlthout necessltatmg the employment of special wood-working machines.
It will be understood that the lon itudinal "guide slot i n the handle may be made at any other point other than by providing the meeting or joint edges of the sections with recesses.
Having thus fully described the invention,
what is claimed as new is In a device of the character described, the combination ot' a rod, a sleeve to receive the same,.said sleeve comprising a pair of semicylindrical sections recessed in two of their ad; acent meeting edges to provide a longitudina slot, thewalls of the slot having spaced transverse recesses, caps connecting the end of said sections, means connecting the sections at the-ends oi the slot, clips engaging the sections between the ends of the slot and having their end portions fitted and secured within said transverse recesses, and a clamping device carried by the rod and movable m the slot and ad ustable for engagement with the walls thereot to secure said rod in adjusted position to the sleeve.
