JOINT MAKING DEVICE Filed Oct. 21, 1929 witmeooao 7627575170/7176027 @Wownmgo Patented Nov. 3, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE VICTOR E. JOHNSON, F ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM G. GOODWIN, 0F ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN I v JOINT-MAKING DEVICE Application filed October 21, 1929. Serial K0. 401,314.
The invention aims to provide an exceptionally simple and inexpensive, yet an eifi cient, rigid and durable device for use in making various kinds of joints between E wooden members, and with this object in View, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, description being accomplished by reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing one form of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation illustrating the construction of Fig. 1 in use.
F ig. 3 is a side elevation showing another form of construction.
In Figs. 1 and 2, denotes an elongated metal strip having its end portions bent to provide two converging arms 21, the armconnecting portion 22 of said strip being straight and provided at its opposite longitudinal edges with oppositely projecting tongues 2324. The arm-connecting portion 22 is adapted to be secured by screws or the like 25 to one bar 26, and the tongues 24 are secured by screws or other fasteners 27 to opposite sides of this bar. The tongues 23 are secured by fasteners 28 to opposite sides of a I bar 29 at right angles to the bar 26, and the arms 21 are secured to opposite edges or said bar 29, by screws or the like 30. The bars 26-29 are thus rigidly secured together and the arms 21 effectively brace them against angling.
ln Fig. 3, a construction is shown somewhat similar to that of Figs. 1 and 2, but only one brace 21 is provided. This brace is formed by bending one end of an elongated metal strip 22 and at the opposite ends of this elongated strip of metal having one end bent at an acute angle to provide a brace, opposite longitudinal edges of said strip being'prostrip, oppositely projecting tongues 2 3-2 1 I are provided. This form of construction is secured to angularly related bars in the same manner as the device of Figs. 1 and2, as will be clear from the drawings.
The construction shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is designed primarily for use in the manufacture of screen doors and window screen -1. A joint-making device comprising'an
