WILLIAM RAYMOND KINNEAR, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
FIREPROOF BLIND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters lfatent No. 671,444, dated April 9, 1901. Application filedootober 20, 1900- Serial No. 33,747. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RAYMOND KINNEAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fireproof Blinds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved form of slat that can be formed out of sheet metal and is especially adapted for use in the construction of fireproofing or fire-resisting curtains or blinds.
The invention is embodied in the form here-- inaft-er described, and shown in the accompanying drawing.
In the said drawing the view represents an oblique perspective of a fraction of a curtain constructed of such slats.
In the view referred to 1 designates the body proper of the slat. The upper edge of the slat is bent to form a tongue 2, said tongue in conjunction with the body portion forming a groove 2. The lower edge of the slat is body of the slat. This overhanging portion 4: insures the shedding of water and prevents thelateral separation of the slats. The slats are connected by sliding them longitudinally upon each other, the tongue 2 in the upper edge of one slat entering the groove 3 on the lower edge of another. A curtain formed of these slats can have great flexibility at the joints without liability of rusting because of accumulation of water in the joints.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A slat for blinds, curtains and the like consisting of a strip of sheet metal bent to form a tongue and groove at its upper edge, and a tongue and a groove at its lower edge, and a portion to overhang the space between the edge of the tongue in the lower portion of the slat and the body thereof.
2. A slat for blinds, curtains and the like, consisting of a strip of sheet metal bent to form a tongue 2 and a groove 2 at its upper edge, and a tongue 3 and groove 3 in its lower edge, and an overhanging or drooping portion 4 in the body thereof, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM RAYMOND KINNEAR.
