Be it known that I, FRANK W. SICKLES, a

citizen of the United States, residing in Hartford, in thecounty of Hartford and State of Oonnecticut,.have invented certain new and useful' Improvements in Type-Writing. Machines, of which the following is a specification. I

This invention relates to revoluble platens of typewriting machines, and its object is to provide simple, inexpensive and efficient. means for applying and releasing the presshowing the pressure rolls released from the platen. ' When the key 11 is depressed, Fig. 2, the arm 24 is elevated and with it the link 10, the shaft 8 is rocked, and the cams 26, 27, secured to .the shaft, are caused to bear down against the heads 14,15, and the free ends of the springs 12, 13 are forced away from the members 20,21 thus permitting the arms 16, 17 to drop and release the pressure rolls from the platen. The springs are automatically engagement of the flattened ends 28 of the cams 26, 27 with the collars 14, 15. When the key is raised and the rock-shaft rotated in reverse direction, the cams 26, 27 will be disengaged from the springs 14, 15, and the latter will force the members 20, 21 apart, and thusbring the rolls into contact. with the platen. v

Having thus described my invention, I claim: v

1.
