FZJJ 5V W! TNESSES W A TYOR/VE Y5 implement of general use about t HARRY J. GRISWOLD, OF EUREKA, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINED POTATO-MASHER AND SPDON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 19, 1908.
Application filed October 31, 1906. Serial No. 3 21,451.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, HARRY J. GRIswoLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented a new and useful Combined Potato-Masher and Spoon, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to combination implements of the character indicated and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to rovide an fie kitchen and it consists of a rotating beating or mashing element in combination with a spoon. Means is provided for reciprocating and rotating the beating element simultaneously.
In the accompanying drawingr-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the im lement with parts in section. Fig. 2 is asi e elevation of the implement. Fig.3 is a horizontal sectional ilgiew of the implement out on the line 3, 8 of The implement comprises the shaft 1 the upper end of which is provided with the spiral ydisposed groove 2. The s oon bowl 3 is fixed to the upper end of the s aft 1 and the coil spring 4 surrounds the up er portion of the shaft. The combined: hand 1 passes. The said per oration 7 fits snugly about the shaft 1 and as the casing 5 is rele and casing 5 is located over the coil spring 4 and is prociprocated the said shaft 1 is simultaneously rotated. The shaft 1 is provided at an intermediate point with a cross in 8 which limits the upward movement of t e casing 5. The Washer 9 is seated upon-the. cross pin 8 and the lower end of the spring 4 bears upon the said washer.
The beater or masher 10 is fixed to the lower end of the shaft and consists of an outwardly-concaved coiled spring the whirls of which are disconnected. By this arrangement when pressure is applied to .the shaft the-whirls will yield or open on the down stroke of the handle and close on the upstroke thereof and thus, in addition to the reducing action resulting from .the rotation of the masher, operateto mash the vegetable being operated upon, thereby materially saving tlme and labor of the procedure.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is An implement 0f the class described, comprising a shaft, 9. masher carried thereby and comprising an upwardly concaved spiral spring all of the whirls of which are disconnected,.and means carried by the upper end of the shaft for rotating the same.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
