MASHER FOR VEGETABLES, FRUITS, 80C.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,504, dated September 26, 1893.

To all whom it may concern,.-

. Be it known that I, GEORGE H. Znnnacitizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvenient in Mashers, whichimprovement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a masher for vegetables, fruit, dac., formed of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims that follow the specification.

Figure l represents a top or plan view of a masher embodying myinvention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof. Fig. represents a side elevation of a detached part.

Similar letters of reference indicate correspondingparts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings: A designates a body or vessel having a bottom B which is corrugatcd and perforated.

C designates a shaft which is supported on said bottom B as a step, and guided and retained in position by -the cross bar C at the top of said shaft, the latter having a suitable crank handle D for operating purposes.

Connected with the lower end of the shaft is a screw, spiral or twisted head E,jwhich Sweeps over the botto1n B,and above said head and secured to the shaft are vanes orbeaters F.

Secured to the side of the vessel A are vanes or beaters G, between which the vanes or beaters F pass in their rotation with the shaft. The side of the vessel has corrugations H, the same extending in vertical direction.

In order to secure the cross bar C in position, the ends of the same are tted between eyes J, which rise from the vessel A and receive the spring hooks or catches K, which are pivotally attached to said vessel below said eyes, and have their noses oversaid cross bar, it being evident that when the catch is thrown back, said cross bar and the shaft C, with connected parts may be readily removed.

The operation is as follows: The vessel is supplied with vegetables, fruit, &c., to be mashed, and the shaft is rotated, whereby the beaters break up the material, and the head E forces the latter against and through the bottom B, said material being rolled or worked over the corrugations of said bottom, whereby it is mashed, in which condition it is pressed through the openings in' said bottom, the rolling and mashing operations being assisted by the side corrugations H against which the material is worked by the action of the beaters F. On the exterior of the vessel A is a hook L which may engage with the top of a pot or other receptacle forv the article that has been mashed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A masher for the purpose set forth consisting of a vessel having corrugated. sides and a perforated corrugated bottom, a detachable cross bar secured to the top of said vessel, a rotatable shaft journaled in said bottom and cross bar, a spiral head secured to the lower end of said shaft, beaters secured to the sides of and within said vessel, and beaters on the shaft passing between said beaters on the side,said parts being combined substantially as described.

2. A masher having a vessel, a shaft carrying a mashing head, a cross bar supporting said shaft, and ears and spring catches on said vessel, the ends of said bar being between said ears, and the latter being engaged by said catches, said catches being pivoted to said vessel below said ears substantially as described.
