WILLIAM G. SGHNEE, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
CRIB ATTACIEMENT FOR BEDSTEADS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Application filed August 30, 1907. Serial No. 890,820.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. SCHNEE,
citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in, the county of Jackson and State -of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crib Attachments for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object a simple, durable, and efficient construction of crib attachment for bedsteads, which may be easily connected to the side rail of a bedstead and held in an out-of-the-Way position when not in use, the parts being so arranged that the attachment may be swung, outwardly from underneath the bedstead and easilysecured in an operative position a'p roximately level with the mattress of. the ar er bed.
ith this and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements. and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and then point out the novel features in the ap ended claims.
or a full understanding of the invention,
reference is to be had to the following descrip tion and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 isa perspective view of a bedstead showing my improved crib attachment applied thereto and in an operative position; Fig. 2'is a similar view showing the invention applied to one side rail of the bedstead and in an inoperative position: Fig. 3 is a rear view of the attachment; Fig. 4'is a side elevation of one of the jointed supports therefor; Fig. 5 is .an enlarged detail sec- 'tional view of the joint; and, Figs. 6 and 7 are detail side and end views of a modified form of clam that may be employed. v
Correspon ing and like parts are referred to in tlie following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a bedstead which may be of any desired form, size, and construction, the bedstead in the present instance being illus trated as of the metallic type, with angle iron side rails 2, to either one of which m improved crib attachment may be connecte The said attachment comprises a pair of embrace one of the side-rails and be secured thereto at the desired point by means of a binding screw, as shown. The vertical arm of each clamp 3 is extended upwardly, as
indicated at 4, so as to form upright posts or standards. The upper ends of these standards are formed respectively with disk-like heads 5 formed with upper and lower notches 6. Angular hanger arms 7 are pivotall connected at one end to the heads of t e re-' spective standards 4 so as to provide jointed supports for the crib, said arms beingpreferably rigidly connected together by the cross bar ,8. Latches 9 are carried by the respective arms 7 and are spring pressed into engagement withthe u per or lower notches in theheads 5, so as to old the hanger arms in an upwardly extending position proj ecting above and outwardly from the side rail 2, or in an ino erative osition extending downwardly an inward y beneath the said side rail. In order to simultaneoiisly retract both latches, I may provide a cord 10 secured thereto, as clearly 'indicated in the drawings.
To the outer end of each hanger arm 7 a link 11 ispivotally connected at one end and is secured at its other end to the base portion,
or spring mattress frame 12 of the crib attachment.
13 desi nates guide rods that are ivotally .connecter at one end to the ends 0 the said base portion and that are formed at their opposite ends with longitudinal slots 14 accommodating screws or studs projecting from the clamps 3.
l5 and 16 designate, respectively, the ends.
the latter when it is in an extended or operative osition. This leg may be swung upward y against the inner side of the base portion when not in use.
From the foregoing description in connec: tion with the accbm anying drawin s, it is manifest-that the crib attachment 0% my invention may be readily attached to either side rail of a bedstead and be easily swung out into the operative position illustrated in Fig; 1, and held securely in place by the latches 9 enga ing in the up er set of notches 6, assisted if desired by t epivoted leg 17. When not in use, the crib may be easily movedto an peratrt'e position, by"releasing the latches '"ninn eapper set of notches andswinging a 'entn'eattachment downwardly and indiy underneath the siderail where it will held. out of the way and concealed by the connterpane, the latches taking into ,the lower set or -notches in the heads or the standards 4-.
If the side rails'oi the bed are of what is known as the inverted'typeindicated at 2 in Figs. 6 and i may employ clamps 3 pro sided with pivotedhooks 18. Havin thus described the invention, what is claims as new is: j
1. A crib attachment for bedsteads, comprising standards arranged to be secured to the side rail of a bedstead and to project upwardly. therefrom, :hanger arms pivotally connected at one end to the upper ends of the I standards and arranged to swing downwardly and underneath the standards, links oivotaily connected to the outer ends of said anger arms to movein the sameplane as said arms, acrib connected to and suspended from said links, and means for holding the, hanger arms in extended and folded positions relatively tothe standards.
2. A. crib attachment for bedsteads, comprising standards arranged to be secured to the side rail of a bedstead and to project upwardly therefrom, hanger arms pivotallyconnected at one end to the respective standards and arranged to swin downwardly and underneath the same,--li1il s pivotally connected to the outer ends of the hanger arms and movable in the same plane as said arms, a crib connected to and suspended from said links, guide rods connecting the crib to the standards, and means for holding the hanger 4Q arms in extended and folded positions with respect to the standards.
3. A crib attachment for bedsteads, comprising clamps adapted to be secured to the side rail of a bedstead and embodying standards adapted to project upwardly from the rail and formed with heads having upper and "lowernotches, angular hanger arms pivotally connected atone end to the respective heads,
latches connected to the respective arms and designed to enter said upper. and lower notchesto hold the hanger arms in extended and ioldedpositions, links pivotally connect= ed at one end-to the opposite endsof said hanger arms, and a crib attached to said links. I
4. A crib attachment for bedsteads, comprisingclamps adapted to be secured to the rail of a bedstead and having upwardly eX- tending posts with u per an pivota y connected to said heads, latches carried by said arms and adapted to engage in the upper or lower sets of notches, links pivotally connected to the outer ends of said arms, a crib connected to said links, and guide rods pivotally connected. at one end to the ends of the crib and having longitudinally slotted opposite ends, the clamps being provided with studs received in the said slot ted ends.
5. A crib attachment for bedsteads, comprising clamps designed to be secured toth-e rail of a vbedstead and provided with heads formed withupper and lower notches, hanger arms pivotally connected to said heads, a cross bar connecting said arms together for simultaneous movement, spring pressed (provided with heads formed latches adapted to enter the upper and lower notches and pivotally mounted upon the respective arms, a cord connected to both of said latches whereby to simultaneously retract both of the latches and a crib pivotally suspended from the outer ends of said hanger arms.
in testimony whereof I aFfiX my signature in presence oftwo witnesses.
