Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. THOMSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Furniture, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in wire-furniture, and particularly to such as have wire supporting-legs, including chairs, stools, tables and similar articles of furniture.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive centerclamp for the brace-arms of the supporting-legs which will effectively secure said brace-arms together and prevent outward deflection of the supporting-legs. l

The invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings,--Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair embodying my inven tion. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a clamp for connecting the brace-arms of the supporting-legs. said clamp. Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 1 y, of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a section taken on line z-z, of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings in detail, like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures.

A represents a chair-seat, B the wireback secured to said seat, and C the supporting legs having brace-arms 0. Each of the supporting-legs is formed of two pieces of wire D and E; the wire D being bent at a point midway between its ends into the form of an eye (Z- which serves as a chair foot, and start l ing at a point directly above said eye to a point about lnidlength between the ends of the leg, the two pieces of wire are twisted, at which latter point they separate; the wire D diverging upwardly into two strands (Z and I being secured to the ch air-seat, and the wire 1 E being directed inward to form the brace 1 arms 0. where they are connected by a clamp F. Said clamp comprises two members f, j, preferably formed of cast metal and having radial cooperating grooves G on their opposed faces, and the lower of said members having apertures H at the inner ends of said grooves. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is, v

1. Inv an article of furniture having supporting-legs, the combination of a plurality of legs, brace-arms directed inwardly from said legs to a central point and having their inner ends bent at a right-angle, and a clamp comprising two members having cooperating grooves which receive the brace-arms and one of said members having apertures at the inner ends of its grooves through which the bent ends of said bracearrns are passed, and a bolt clamping said members together.

2. In an article of furniture having supporting-legs, the combination of a plurality of legs, each formed of wire and having inwardly directed brace-arms leading to "a central point, the inner ends of said arms being bent at a right-angle, a clamp comprising two castings having cooperating grooves in which the inner ends of said brace-arms are clamped and coinciding bolt-holes, one of said members having apertures at the inner ends of its grooves through which the bent ends of said brace-arms are passed, a bolt passing through said coinciding bolt-holes, and a nut applied to the threaded end of said bolt.
