Description

No. 887,111. PATBNTED MAY 12, 1908- J. McPHBRSON.
- BED SPRING.
APPLIUATION FILED JUNE 19.1907.
A TTORNE VS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES MCPHERSON, OF CARTHAGE, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO WILLIAM A. WILLIAMS AND ONE-FOURTH TO SAMUEL O. MORROW, OF OARTHAGE, MISSOURI.
BED-SPRIN G.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES MoPHEnsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carthage, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Bed-Spring, of which the following is a speci wires and lie in the bowed portions thereof.-
Helical spring members are mounted upon the supporting frames at the points of intersection thereof and the bowed portions of the heavier wires extend up within the said springs. The lower ends of the springs pass under the lighter wires and over the heavier wires in describing the initial loops and the end portion of the said spring extends parallel with the heavier and under the lighter wire and is provided with an upstanding extremity located substantially centrally with relation to the spring and in one of the corners formed at the intersection of the supporting wires.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a top plan view of a portion of the spring, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the spring.
The spring consists of a supporting frame made up of the cross wires 1 and 2. The wires 2 are heavier gaged than the wires 1 and are provided with the bowed portions 8. The wires 1 are straight and lie under the wires 2 and intersect the same at the bowed portion 3. The helical springs 4 are mounted upon the frame at the points of intersection of the wires 1 and 2 thereof. The initial or lower loops of the said springs pass under the wires 1 and over the wires 2. Each spring is provided with a straight end portion 5 which extends parallel with the adjacent wire 2 and under the wire 1 and which is diametrically disposed with relation to the initial or small est loop of the spring. The portion 5 merges into the upstanding extremity 6 which is located substantially centrally with relation to the spring 4 and in one of the corners formed by the intersection of the wires 1 and 2. The bowed portions 3 extend up into the springs 4.
From the foregoing description it is obvious that a simple and substantial structure is provided and that the ends of the springs are so disposed as to be prevented from catching in the bed clothing and the end portion 5 and extremity 6 of the spring cooperate with cross wire 2 and prevent lateral displacement of the spring.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is A spring comprising intersecting wires of different gage, the wire of heavier gage being bowed and the wire of lighter gage being straight and lying under and within the bowed portion of the heavier wire, a helical spring member arranged upon said wires at the intersection thereof, the initial loop of the spring passing under the lighter wire and over the heavier wire, said spring having a straight end portion which is diametrically disposed with relation to the initial loop of the spring, said portion occupying a plane parallel to that occupied by the heavier wire and having contact with the heavier wire at the opposite sides of the lighter wire and having an upstanding extremity located at the corner formed by the intersection of the wires, said extremity having contact with both wires.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES MoPHERSON.
