citizen of the United States, residing at Northeir upperends alined notches 19, and a pin walk, in the county of Huron and State of or projection 2() carried by the pole, engages Ohio, have invented a new and useful Vehicle in said notches. A spring latch 21, suitably Canopy-Top, of which the following is a specisecured to the pole, engages beneath the ficatioii. lower end of the stem 7 and detachably se- This invention relates to means for mounting the canopy top upon the supporting standard, and while particularly intended for vehicles, is not necessarily limited to this use.
The primary object is to provide novel means of a simple nature whereby the top can be more readily applied to the standard and detached therefrom and folded, the parts being such that they can be easily manufactured and readily assembled.
cures the saine in place upon thestem. The usual outstanding ribs 22 are pivotally mounted on the ears 17, and the stretchers 23 for said ribs, are in like manner pivotally connected to theV ears 14.
lith this structure, it will be observed that the entire canopy is entirely removable from the standard, for by disengaging the latch 21, the crown element may be removed, and afterwards the runner sleeve can be de- The preferred form of construction is illustached. Consequently the canopy can be trated in the accompanying drawings, applied to the standard or detached therewherein :r from, and folded with ease and expedition.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the mechanism. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereln this connection, it is to be noted that the crown element constitutes means for holding through. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the pole the runner sleeve in place, and the said runemployed. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of. the ner sleeve can be removed with the crown so supporting stem and its socket piece. Fig. 5 that the en tire canopy can be detached withfrom the standard. rlhe structure furthermore is composed of simple parts which can be readily manufactured and easily assembled.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those sk'lled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
^ Having thus fully described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters ljatent, is z- 1. In a structure of the character set forth,
the combination with a tubular support, of
is a detail perspective view of the runner out removing the stem sleeve.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
ln the embodiment illustrated, a support is employed comprising angularly disposed stems 6 and 7, the stem 6 being provided with a socket 8 into which the arm 9 of the supporting standard 10 is threaded. The particular disposition of the stem 6 and arm 9 is, however, not .inportant The stem 7 is tubular, and at its lower end is provided with a peripheral enlargement 11 and an outstanding lug 12.
A runner sleeve or barrel 13 is detachably fitted upon and surrounds the stem 7 its lower end resting upon the enlargement 11.
lt is provided between its ends with an annular series of ears 14 constituting a notcher, a crown element, and a runner element, one and furthermore has in its lower en a notch of said elements being detachably Jiitted upon 15 that receives the lug 12. Consequently and surrounding the tubular support, the the sleeve when in place, is held against rotaother being detachably fitted within the tution on the stem. A crown element is also bular support, ribs connected to the crown employed that consists of a pole 15aL preferelement, and stretchers for said ribs conably of wood, and having a collar 16 fitted upon it. This collar is provided with an annular series of outstanding ears 17 constituting an upper notcher, The pole 15a fits snugly within the stein 7, and has an annular shoulder 1S resting upon the upper end of -nected to the runner element.
2. ln a structure of the character set forth, the combination with a su port having an u standing terminal stein, of) an upper crown e ement and a lower runner element both detachably mounted on the upstanding stem,
the crown element constituting means that secures the runner element on tl he runner element.
n a structure of the character set forth, the combination with a tubular support, of a crown element, and a runner element, one of said elements being detachably fitted upon and surrounding the tubular support, the other being detachably fitted Within the tuular support, one of support to detachably hold it to the support.
n a structureof the character set forth, the combination with a tubular supporting stem, of a runner extending over the sl l retain the same in place, and a latch for detachably securing t e crown element to the stem.
5. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with an upstanding tubular ing stem and extending over the sleeve and holding the same in place, and a latch located in the stem and securing the crown element upon said sten 6. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with a supporting arm having an u standing stem, of a runner element detacha and means for detachably securing the crown to the stem.
n a structure of the character set forth, the combination with a tubular supporting end, th at engages within the stem, having a projection that engages in lthe upp notch of the runner sleeve, detachably securing the crown to the stem.
9. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with a support including an engages within the stem has an outstanding pin engaging the notches of the stem and sleeve, a latch carried by the pole and detachably engaging the lower end of the stem, ribs pivoted to the crown, and stretchers for the ribs pivoted to the sleeve.
10. In astructure of the characterset forth, the com crown element detachably mounted on the stem and bearing upon the upper end of the sleeve to hold it in place on said stem, means for detaohably securing the crown element in place, and ribs and stretchers respectively connected to the crown and sleeve.
In a structure ofthe characterset forth slidably mountedthereon and removable from its up- In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
