WILLIAM HIZER, or nnrnoir, MECEIGAN, iissicnos or ONBHALF re n. my nsreorr, MICHIGAN."
Specification of Letters Patent;
Application flied December 30, 1967. Serial No. coasts.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatrl, WI LIAM Hrznn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wziyne and State of Michigan, have invented certain neiv and useful improvements in a Toy; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe same.
-This invention has relation to new and useful improvement in toys, and has for its object the production of a toy having a parachute attachment, and adapted to be shot into the air by a blow gun, bow or other device, the toy being so constructed that the parachute attachment will open, after the force exerted, incident to the firing of the toy has been spent and the force of gravity begins to act.
The object of the invention is the production of a simple and inexpensive toy of this character, whereby merchandise or other salable articles may be advertised in a novel and effective Way.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, that will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in the novel features, of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, illustrated in the drawings end pan ticularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanyingxlrawings; Figure l is a side elevation of the toy about to be fired from a gun or other device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the toy descending to the ground; and Fig. 3 a central vertical section of Fig.
In the embodiment illustrated, it will be seen that the toy corn rises an image 1, of a man, haviiu a central ongitudinal opening 2, extending through its length. 4
3 represents a .suitable arrow which extends through the o ening 2 in the image, and projects a suitable distance shove and below the same.
4 indicates the parachute Which is made of cloth, fabric, paper .or other suitable material, and in either round, square, octagon, hexagonal or other-form, This parachute is strengthened by a plurality of radially -rojecting ribs 5, which reject preferably a slight distance beyond t e edge of the same. Cords 6 or other fiexiblemembers erecttached at their upper ends to the projecting chute and the ring and is second t ched at their u the parachute ant at their lower ends to the ring 7 to cooperate with the cords or flexible member :3, in providing a substantial and secure fastening for the parachute.
A button 9, is arranged at the center, and
on the outer surface of the parachute, and is provided with a central, vertical aperture to receive the upper end of the arrow 0. This button is fireiere'hly attached in position by arranging a. dish 10 of wood or other suitable materiel on the inner of the psrechnte "under the button and attaching the buttons and disk together to a corresponding ortion of the parachute between the lhe arrow 3 is provided with e shoulder or flange 11, near its ripper end to engage the disk 1 In practice, the toy is in the position representedby Fig. 1., before being fired into the air. Jitter the toy hes been fired into the air, by arrow, and force exerted on the toy has been spent, the force of grevity will cause-the toy to begin its descent, when the parachute 4 will open, the arrow sliding through the image and the latter, by reason of its wei ht upon the oarschute, sensing the same to slowly descent to the ground. Having described the invention, What I claim, is:
In a device of the character specified, a parachute having a central reinforced per tion, an arrow having a shoulder to detachably engage the reinforced portion of the parachute, an image having a longitudinally extending opening to receive the arrow, e ring srrenged the upper end Jhe 'inagie, a series otrlernhle connecting eieinents ranged between tne outer edge gi necting elements arranged between the trai portion of the persons te the ring.
in testimony whereof I W h my hand in presence or" two .BSSGS.
