Description

No. 886,119. PATBNTED APR. 2.8, 1908.

APPLIoATIoN FILED 1113.13. 1907.
HIS' ATTUHNEY Ilar CHARLES H. GASKILL, JR., OF PEEKSKILL, NW YORK.
NECKTIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 28, .is 9.
- Application filed April 13, 1907. Serial No. 368,078.
T o all whomv'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. GAsKILL, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Peekskill, in the county of Westchester and State of New York,l have invented certain neiv and useful improvements in Neckties, of which thefollowing is a specilication. i
My invention relates to neckties, and more particularly to that form of such articles nown as made up ties, and the invention consists in a novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts whereby the tie is adapted to be secured to the collar of the wearer.v
In the accom anying drawings Figure 1 represents a bac i or rear view of a tie con-- structed accordingto my invention; Fig. 2 represents a topview oi the tie, showing also the neck-band of a shirt and .a collar to which the tie is attached, the collar being shown in section; and Fig. 3 is a ltransverse horizontal section, on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference represent simit parts in the various igures of the drawings.
A represents the tie pro er, which may be of any suitable size and orm. Within the body of thetie is located a curved stri of suitable material, B, preferably spring s veetv metal, and secured to the strip B by a rivet One or more foldsf the material of which.
of material,
H is a substantially similar strp y' of the. ntie.
1 C, located outside-of1 -the ybo* the body of the tie .is :composed is interposed between the two 'curved strips B 'andC, as
shown in the drawings, andthereby the two strips B and C are spaced slightly apart, and
the space Vbetween same is vincreased near their ends by' the fact @that'the strip C is more curved than the stri Bij The rivet H may pass through Athe fo ds of material between the strips B and C thus clamping the strips on to said material, and as a further means of attachment the strips-or one ofl them-may bejstitched` or otherwise suitably attached to the body of the tie.
.D represents the neckband of a shirt, and F the collar-band or inner fold of a turn-over collar. .The collar is shown attachedto the neck-band oi the shirt by a stud or collarbutton E of well-known construction.
G represents the outer fold or turned-over portion of the collar.
The tie is shown in situ, being secured to the collar by the insertion of the front edges of the turned-over fold G between the ends of thestrips B and C on each side 4of the rivet H. The strips B and C, on account of the construction and elasticit and close approximatwn to each other, bmd the front edges of the turned-over fold ofthe collar G and iirmly hold the same, thus securely attaching the tie in place and securing it to the collar.
The advantages of my invention are that it provides in combination with a necktie, a simple, cheapJ eicient, and easily operated means of attachment in its place upon thegarments of the wearer. i
Having thus described my invention, what `I claim as new, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In a neck tie or similar article, the combination with the bod of the tie proper, of'
a strip of comparative y unyielding material located within the body ofthe tie and secured thereto by its middle portion; a substantiall similar strip located outside the body of t e tie and secured thereto by its middle portion; and means for permanently securing the strips together and to the body of the tie; the ends of said strips being spaced slightly apart and adapted to receive between them a fold of a collar or other support and to grip or clamp the same s0 as to secure the tie 1n place upon the garments of the wearer.
2. In a neck tie or similar article, the combination with the body of the tie'proper, of a curved strip of spring metal located within the body ofthe tie proper and being secured thereto by its middle portion; a substantially similar but slightly more curved strip of spring metal located outside thereof and secured thereto by its middle portion; and means Jfor permanently securing the strips together and to the body 'of the tie, the ends of said strips being spaced slightly apart and ada ted to receive between them a fold of a col ar or other support and to grip or CHARLES GASKILL, JR.
