The nature of this invention relates to an improve- I ment in the construction of neck-yokes, by means of which the horses may be allowed to spread apart from each other and the pole, to pass mud-holes, or obstructions in the centre of the road, and which will, after such obstructions are passed, compel the horses to come together again.
The invention consists in attaching a coil spring around each end of a neck-yoke, the inner ends of said spring being attached to the yoke, and the outer ends to the sliding thimhles, to which are attached the loops, through which pass the holdback-straps and martingales. a
A, in the drawings, represents a wooden neck-yoke,
which may be constructed of the shape shown in the drawings, or any other shape most desirable.
B are coiled springs, the inner ends of which are secured near the centre of the yoke, longitudinally, while their outer ends are secured to the sliding thins bles C.
D is a ring, secured to the centre of the yoke, 1ongitndinally, and is designed, byengagement with the tongue, or pole of a wagon, to sustain the same.
E-are the 'usual metal loops, through which pass the holdback-straps and martingales of the harness These loops are attached to the thimbles D.
The operation of this device is so simple as to render a description thereof unnecessary.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The arrangement of the coiled springs B, or their equivalents, and yoke B, with slidingthimbles 0, when constructed and operating substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
