In these drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the barrel; Fig. 2, a vertical section; Fig. 3 a top plan view; Fig. 4, a detail plan of one of the joint bands and Fig. 5, a'section on line :zs-cc of Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawings, the barrel comprises an upper part 1 and a lower part 2 both made of sheet metal. The lower part is preferably twice the height of the upper portion whereby the barrel may be more readily filled by removing the upper portion. At its bottom, the part 2 is provided with a head or stamped out projection 3, whereby the flat bottom of the barrel is raised above the ground. .The parts 1 and 2 are provided with a series of outwardly projecting beads 4, forming interior grooves into which are sprun strengthening hoops 5, preferably 40 formed of split rings, of stiff, spring wire.
, These hoops serve to stiiien and strengthen the body of the barrel.
At its upper edge the lower part has an inwardly projecting shoulder 6, from which extends upwardly a vertical flange 7. The upper part 1 ofthe barrel is adapted to fit over this flange and rest upon theshoulder. Between these two parts and bearing against the flange and shoulder are semi-circular joint-closing and strengthening bands 8, made of metal and L-shaped in cross-section. Thesebands or hoops not only serve to more thoroughly cover and protect the joint between the two parts but also stiffen and strengthen the barrel at this point.

The arrangement of the upper rim g0 and inner lip on the tube projecting therefrom provides a construction whereby the contents will not filter out or otherwise escape.
The cover 15 is provided with a tongue i7, 5 raised verticaliyand having a hole therethrough. This tongue is adapted to contact with an apertured lug 18 which serves both as a stop for the cover and as a means of engaging the tongue so as to retain the cover in closed position which result is efiected by passing a wire or similar means or". connection through apertures in the lugs.
Secured to the part 1 on the beads l, are fastener-lugs 19, providedwith holes through which are passed and secured wires or simi lar fastener means 20.-ext ending over the cover for the purpose of retaining the cover 15 in closed position.
The barrel is stamped out of sheet-metal of a kind and thickness'sufficiently strong to stand refilling two or three times. It is adaptedto be used for lime, bottled goods and grain products, and it takes the place of the ordinary wooden barrel which can be used only once.
It is clear that various changes in the details of my device may be made without departing from the principle of my invention.
- Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A metallic barrel having two separate cylindrical parts having their inner openends detachably joined and forming a continuous barrel when placed together, and an annular band placed at. the oint between the two' parts, to close said joint, substantially as described.

A metallic barrel having two cylindrical parts, a shoulder and, a vertical flange on,one.of said parts-engaged by the other art, and an L-sha ed semi-circular band oosely resting .onsald shoulder and against said vertical flange substantially as despring rings or hoops bearing against the interior of the barrel, substantially as described.
