Description

dehnt ACHILLE F. MIGEON, OF WOLCO'ITVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
' Letters Patent No. 88,403, dated Mrz/roh 30, 1869.
IMPROVENIENT IN' CATTLE-TIES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it 'may concern A Be it known that I, ACHILLE F. MIGEON, of Wolcottville, in the county of Litchfield, and State of Connecticut, have invented and made a new and useful Improvement in Cattle-Ties; and'I do'hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the saidinvention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, wherein- Figure 1 represents the cattle-tie complete, as ready for use;
Figure 2 is a transverse section of my improvedclamp; and
Figure 3 is a view of said clamp as opened ont.
Similar marks of reference denote the same parts.
Cattle-ties have been made with a tubular thimble, into the side of which a screw is introduced, to clamp the rope, the snap-hook at the end of the rope taking into an eye on the screw. In this character of cattletie, difculty is experienced in passingv the thimble along `the rope, when there are knots or inequalities, or when the end of the rope is .loose or frayed out.
My invention obviates this diiiiculty; and consists in a hinged clamp, to grasp the rope, and formed with au eye for the lsnap-hook.
By this construction, the cattle-tie can he applied, with facility,to any part of the rope, and is very strong, and not liable to slip on the rope, and the metal parts are o f a character to prevent injury to the horns or heads of the cattle.
In the drawing, a represents the rope, of suitable size and length, at one end of which a snap-hook, b, of ordi. nary character, is attached.
My hinged clamp consists of the two parts, c and d, united by the hinge e, and formed With grooved or cylindrieal faces, at 2 2, to set around the rope, and rrnly vclamp the saine, when the binding-screw f is inserted and screwed up, as represented in iig. 2.
To the part c, I form an eye, g, projecting on one side, to receive the hook b, as seen in iig. l, so that the parts c, d, and f, ofthe clamp shall not come in contact with the horns or head of the animal when under strain, they being outside the loop of rope that extends around the horns. By disconnecting the snap-hook from the eye g, the horns or head are liberated.
What `I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cattle-tie, formed of the hinged clamps c and d, and screw f, for grasping the rope and the eye g, extending out from the clamp c, for receiving the snaphook, as set forth.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature, this 12th day of January, 1869.
ACHILLE F. MIGEON.
