NATHANIEL L. POLINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DENTAL MOUTH-PROP.
No. 883,232. Specification of Application filed November 21, 1907.
Letters Patent. Patented March 31, 1908.
Serial No. 403,197.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHANIEL L. PoLIN- GER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Mouth-Props, of which the ollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to mouth props for dental use and more articularly to a device of this character which is adjustable to different lengths as required.
The object of my invention is to produce a device of the class described which shall be capable of ra id and accurate adjustment and which shall be simple and efiicient.
With the above objects in view the invention consists of the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved mouth prop, the same being shown contracted. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation, partly in section showing the device with the parts separated. Fi l-is a transverse section on the line 4-4 0 Fig. 2, and Fi 5 is a transverse section on the line 5-5 0 Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the device comprises a barrel or body portion 1, and formed thereon, a grip 2, by which it may be held. Adapted to fit within this body portion is a sleeve 3 externally and internally screw threaded, and provided at one end with an annular flange 4.. Within this sleeve 3 a screw threaded shank 5 is adapted to fit.
Attached to the shank 5 is a socket 6 in which fits a cushion 7 of rubber, or similar and in this socket 9 fits a cushion 10, similar to the cushion 7, above described. It will be seen that, when in use, the sleeve 3 and shank 5 telescope with the barrel 1, and by turning one of the parts the device may be extended or contracted at will. It may be obthree separate sections, the intermediate part or sleeve 3 may be rotated, while the shank 5 and associated parts remain stationary, the shank 5 and barrel 1 being simply forced apart or drawn together by the rotation of the part 3.
Owing to the swivel connection between the barrel 1 and the socket 9, the barrel may also be rotated if desired while the cushion 10 remains stationary.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a device which is extremely easy to mani ulate and at the same time consisting of ew parts, and it is thought that the numerous advantages thereof will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art.
What I claim is 1. A mouth prop com rising a barrel, an internally and external y threaded sleeve telescoping therein, and a screw threaded shank telescoping within said sleeve.
2. A mouth prop comprising a barrel, a plurality of telescoping sections fitting therewithin, and a cushion holding socket swiveled to said barrel.
3. A mouth prop comprisin a plurality of telescoping sections mounted or relative rotation and screw threaded together, the two end sections having cushion carrying sockets swiveled thereto, said sockets having undulating edges with high and low portions at diametrically opposite points.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
