Be it known that I, ANTON V. KNoLL, of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drainage Valves of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of faucets or drainage valves which have the delivery at the end of the faucet-barrel, and it consists in an improved construction and combination of the component parts of said faucet, whereby the same is rendered durable and self adjusting to maintain it perfect in its operation, and which also admits of readily connecting the gate to the lbarrel of the faucet, and of as readily removing said gate when required for repairs or renewal, all as hereinafter more ful-ly described, and specifically set forth in the claims.
i The invention is fully illustrated in the anneXed drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my improved faucet, showing it in its closed position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the gate. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the clamp, and Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the discharge end of the faucet in its closed position.

A represents the barrel of the faucet, usually formed with a downward deflection at its discharge end. The barrel is provided with trunnions B on opposite sides. On these trunnions is hung or pivoted the clamp C, consisting of arms, pivoted as aforesaid'on opposite sides of the barrel, and reaching across the front or face of the barrel, where they are provided with a forwardly extending set screw D, by which to secure the gate in its closed position. The gate L is hingedly connected to the top of the barrel at II, and on the front portion of said gate is interposed a valve or gasket M, which is removably connected to the gate L, by means of the stem or stud N projecting from the tip F of the gate L, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. A portion of the rim of the gate L is cut away at O, to bring this part of the gate flush with the discharge end of the barrel. Oppositely disposed lugs I on the gate prevent the clamp C from passing downwardly beyond the middle point of the gate when in a closed position. I am aware that prior to my invention gates or valves have been trunnioned at opposite sides of the faucet barrel and arranged to slide over the discharge end thereof, also that gate provided with a swinging frame pivotally attached to the upper side of the barrel have been in use. They have in most instances, been ada ted to slide against a plane or segmental y curved face on the faucet barrel, and in all such cases the tightness of the valve or faucet is contingent upon the smoothness of said face. In my invention, I have obviated the necessity for a per fectly fitted valve or for the correction of the wear incident to a sliding connection and my valve can be instantly opened or closed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. The combination with a faucet-barrel provided with a plane face a hinged gate fitted against said face, an open frame trunnioned on opposite sides of the barrel straddling the front part of the barrel, aset screw in the frame pressing the gate against the face of the barrel, shoulders on gate adapted to are rest the descent of the frame when the gate shall be fully closed, substantially as set forth.

The combination with a faucet barrel provided with a plane face, a hinged gate iitted against said face, a clamp trunnioned on opposite sides of the barrel and extending across the face of the barrel when the valve is in a closed position, a set screw in the front of the clamp, a raised metallic tip centrally disposed on the outer surface of the gate and adapted to receive the set screw, shoulders on the gate adapted to arrest the descent of the clamp, a gasket interposed on the inner portion ofthe gate, a stem adapted to connect narne to this speoiiieation in the presence of the gasket to the gate, a gasket seat at the two Witnesses.
