Be it known that I, Gnonc WALDMANN, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident at Geestemi'inde, Germany, have invented Improvements in Devices for Raising IJiquids, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to means for raising liquids and is intended for use by vineyard proprietors, wholesale wine merchants, spirit, liqueur, vinegar and oil manufacturers, chemists and custom house authorities.
One embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which illustrates the device in part sectional side elevation, the receptacle into which the liquid is to be raised being shown in full lines in one position and in dotted lines in the position which it occupies while being filled.
The device according to the present invention consists of the suction pipe d which passes through a plate a, the joint between the pipe and the plate being air-tight. The plate a is provided with a nipple 0 over which the suctionball e or the like of rubber or other suitable material is placed. The plate a is provided with a downwardly-projecting flange at its edge and a packing disk which fits inside the flange against the under surface of the plate, suitable openings being of course provided to correspond with the position of the end of the pipe d and the nipple c. A glass or other suitable vessel 0 is adapted to be held with its upper edge against the disk I) by means of mechanism mounted on the suction pipe (if said mechanism preferably consists of an arrangement of levers such as that illustrated. Said mechanism moreover is preferably adjustable in order that it may be adapted to hold vessels of different sizes tightly against the packing disk.
In the construction illustrated in the drawing h is an arm secured on the pipe (1. On said arm is pivoted the lever {I provided with the handle f and on said lever g is pivoted one end of the two-part link i, the other end of said two-part link being pivoted to the lever n which in its turn is pivoted on the arm m provided on the clamp Z adapted to be adjusted by the screw 7c. The two-part link i has its two parts interconnected adjustably by means of the sleeve p inclosing the ends of the two parts of the link and provided with screws by which said parts may be clamped inthe sleeve after being adjusted so that the total length of the two-part link shall correspond suitably to the size of the glass or other vessel to receive the liquid to be raised.
The operation of the device is as follows: The handlef is operated so that the mechanism takes up the position illustrated in the drawing. A vessel such as 0 is then inserted and is held. with its upper rim against the packing disk I). The handlef is then pulled over in the direction indicated by the arrow so that the lever n is raised and presses it against the packing disk 7) in an air-tight manner. The suction-ball is then squeezed in the hand, the air passing out through the suction pipe (Z. The lower end of the suction pipe is then inserted in the liquid to be raised and the suction ball is then released, the result being that the atmospheric pressure drives the liquid up the suction pipe into the vessel 0.
, What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device for raising liquids, the combination of a suction pipe, a plate secured to the same, a nipple on said plate, a suction device on said nipple, and means for supporting a vessel with its rim under said plate, said means being mounted on said suction pipe.
2. In a device for raising liquids, the combination of a suction pipe, a plate attached to the same, a nipple on. said plate, a rubber suction ball on said nipple, an arm h on said pipe, a handle lever g pivoted on said arm, a two-part link t pivoted on said lever g, an adjustable arm m on said suction pipe, and a lever n on said arm, said lever being pivotally connected to the other end of the link i.
