To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, J OHN F. WEBBER, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improved J ar-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to an improved device for holding fruit-jars, cans, or bottles of glass or other material during the process of filling and fastening down the cover or removing the Same. This invention consists in the hiuging together of a fixed and movable clamping-section, which are provided with a volute cam or other suitable fastening device that draws the sections together and firmlylocks them in position. The sections are provided with elastic pads of rubber, cork, or other suitable material, so as to prevent the marring or fracture of the utensil held between them.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side view. Fig. 2 is a detail view, showing the volute cam and its connection. Fig. 3 is a top view, partly in section.
A B are the clamping-sections, hinged together at b, the inner .faces of which is provided with elastic pads O, of rubber, cork, or other suitable material. The pads may line the whole of the sections A B, or a series of pads inverted in recesses in the rim, as shown in Fig. 2, may be used. The section A is provided with an extension-arm, D, through which passes a clamping-screw, E, by which the holder may be readily secured to a table or bench; or, when desired, it maybe secured by screws passing through the bottom flange a of the section A. The clamping-sections A B are drawn together, so. as to firmly clamp the utensil to be held, by means of a volute camclamp, F, secured to one of the sections, which engages over a lug or projection, G, on the other section, which cam, when partly rotated by the handle H, draws the Sections A B together, and firmly clamps them in position.
Other forms of fastening devices may be used, but the form shown is preferred.
I claim as my invention 1. The hinged clamping-sections A B, having elastic pads O and fastening device G H, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of clampingsections A B, elastic padsG, arm D, clamping-screw E, with volute cam F, lu'g G, and handle H, substantially as set forth.
