REEL FOR RUGHINGS, m. MODEL, APPLICATION FILED MAY 10. 1906.
WITNESSES INVENTO/Y 1m: NORRIS FTERS co. \VASHINGYDN. n c
LEOPOLD SONN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
REEL FOR RUCHINGSf dac.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 1'7, 1908.
Application filed May 10, 1906. Serial No. 316,122. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD SONN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Reel for Ruchings and the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to packaging fabrics, and its object is to provide a new and improved reel which is simple and durable in construction, exceedingly strong, and more especially designed for winding thereon ruchings and other fabrics.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement, parts being broken out, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same.
The side pieces A and A of the reel are rigidly connected with each other by a connecting web B of cardboard or other suitable material, the said web having integral flanges B and B at its sides, and the said web flanges B, B are glued, cemented or otherwise secured to the inner faces of the side pieces A and A. The ends of the web B fit into transverse grooves formed on the inner sides of end pieces C and C, preferably made of wood, and secured by nails D or other fastening devices to the side pieces A and A. Thus, by the arrangement described, an exceedingly strong and durable reel is provided, as the connecting web B and its pieces 0 and C are uninterruptedly attached to the side pieces A and A at the middle thereof and nearly throughout the entire length of the said side pieces A and A, it being understood that the outer sides of the reinforcing pieces (I and C are rounded off and terminate a distance from the ends of the side pieces A and A, to confine the fabric material within the side pieces .wound on the reel.
A and A, and which fabric material is wound on the said connecting web. A reinforcing bar E, preferably made of wood, extends transversely across the connecting web B and abuts at its ends against the flanges B and B and nails 1) or like fastening devices driven through the side pieces A, A, the flanges B, B into the ends of the cross bar E, serving to unite the several parts together. The entire connecting web, consisting of the web B, the end pieces C, C and the cross bar E is preferably covered by an endless band F of paper, to provide a smooth, clean surface for the ruching or other article to be The reel shown and described is very simple and durable in construction, can be cheaply manufactured and is not liable to readily break to pieces as is frequently the case with reels heretofore constructed.
Having thus, described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent;
1. A reel for ruchings and the like, comprising side pieces, a flexible connecting web having flanges at its sides secured to the inner faces of the said side pieces, and stiff reinforcing end pieces engaging the ends of the said web and secured to the said side pieces a short distance from their ends and about the middle of the width thereof.
2. A reel for ruchings and the like, comprising side pieces, a flexible connecting web having flanges at its sides secured to the inner faces of the said side pieces, and still reinforcing end pieces having in their inner edges at the center thereof transverse grooves receiving the ends of the said web, the said end pieces being secured to the said side pieces a short distance from their ends and about the middle of the width thereof.
3. A reel for ruchings and the like, comprising side pieces, a flexible connecting web having flanges at its sides secured to the innerifaces of the said side pieces, stifl reinforcing end pieces having in their inner edges grooves receiving the ends of the said web and secured to the said side pieces a short distance from their ends and about the middle of the width thereof, a reinforcing bar extending transversely across the said Web at a point intermediate the said end name to this specification in the presence of pieces, the ends of the bar resting against the two subscribing Witnesses.
Web flanges, means for unitin the said bar T to the side pieces and the We?) flanges, and I LEOPOLD SOBN' 5 a covering for the Web, end pieces, and \Nitnesses:
cross bar. THEO. G. HOSTER,
In testimony whereof I have signed my 7 EVERARD B. MARSHALL.
