EEEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led March 4, 1910. Serial No. 547,234.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST G. TrIoMsEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in reels, the object of the invention being to provide a reel especially designed for winding laces, ruching, and other dry goods thereon, and which is composed entirely of paper, yet strong and durable in use and extremely cheap to manufacture.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim. Y
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l, Fig. 2, is a view in longitudinal section, and Fig. 3, is a view in cross section.
l, l, represent the flat sides of the reel, which are preferably of heavy cardboard, and which are connected by a body 2. The body 2, is also of cardboard, and is bent in a rectangular form as illustrated, comprising a single piece of cardboard scored at the angles of the rectangular body, and having one end 3, glued to the other end of the cardboard, so that the body will be securely held in rectangular formation. Flanges or flaps et, are bent outward from the edges of the body 2, and are glued to the sides l. At each end of body 2, my improved end pieces 5, are secured, and each end piece comprises a single strip of cardboard having two folds therein, the distance between the folds being greater than the distance between the folds and the end, so that when the ends 6, 6, are glued together, the intermediate portion will be bulged outward in curved form as shown, and when the ends are glued to the ends of the body 2, t-he body will be provided with rounded Iends to form a continuous smooth surface on which the laces, ruchings or dry goods are wound.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within' the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A reel composed entirely of cardboard, consisting of two fiat pieces forming sides, a body composed of a single piece of cardboard bent into rectangular form, a tab on one end of the body glued against the inner face of one side of the body, said sides of the body being smooth throughout, end pieces composed of cardboard folded at two points, the end portions glued together and to the ends of the body, and the intermediate portions bulged outward forming curved ends on the body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
