TOOTHPICK.
Application filed July 4, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoI-rN BENJAMIN Frownns, av citizen of the United States. residing at Brooklawn, Gloucester City, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful lm proveulents in Toothpicks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a corrugated toothpick made from thin pointed blanks oi pyroxylin or other material. The corrugation gives the necessary stillness to the thin material so that the pick will not bend when used. The points are extensions oi? the sides oi the corrugation so that the point is a fiat uncorrugated surface and so thin that itfits between the teeth. The preferred form has the corrugation in the shape of a V. The blanks from which the finished toothoicks are made may be used as toothpicks but are not as satisfactory to use as the corrugated toothpicks.
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of this invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a. plan. view of a blank from which the toothpicks are made. Fig. 52 is an edge view of the blank shown in Fig. 1. Figs. 8 to 7 are modified forms of blanks. Fig. 8 is a side view of a toothpick corrugated in the form of a V and Fig. 9 is an end viewof the same.
Referring to the figures, the preferred form of toothpick made from the blank shown in Fig. 1 by corrugating it is shown in Figs. 8 and 9 which illustrate a toothpick having a corrugation or groove 11 along its center line and points 8 in diagonally opposite corners. This V form of corrugated toothpick may be made from any of the blanks shown in Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive by bending them along their center lines. Re
Serial No. 572,760.
ferring to the blanks from which the toothpicks are made, the blanks consist of single thin sheets of material having parallel sides 9 in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive and curved sides 10 in Fig. 7 and also having points 8 ar ranged in opposite diagonal corners as in Fig. 1, in one corner 8 in Fig. 3, at one corner 8 in 4-. where one side curves over to meet the point 8, at one end along the center line, point; 8, in Fig. 5, at opposite blunt right angled. ends 8 in Fig. 6, and at diagonal corners 8 in Fig. 7.
I claim:
1. A toothpick having its body corrugated so that the sides adjacent to the edges extend above the median line along the length to constitute a stiffening corrugated form wherein the body part is provided with two points which are respectively extensions of the opposite edges.
2. A toothpick having its body corrugated so that the sides adjacent to the edges extend above the median line along the length to constitute a stiffening corrugated form wherein the corrugation is in the shape of a V.
3. A toothpick having its body corrugated so that the sides adjacent to the edges extend above the median line along the length to constitute a stilieuing corrugated form wherein the corrugation is in the shape of a V, the sides of the body being respectively extended in oppositely directed points. 75
4. A toothpick having its body corrugated so that the sides adjacent to the edges extend above the median line along the length to constitute a stifiening corrugated form wherein the corrugation is in the shape of a V, the sides of the body being respectively extended in diagonally oppositely directed points.
