GEORG SCHOENNER, OF NUREMBERG, GERMANY.
DRAWING-PEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 25, 1907.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Serial No. 399,184.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnone SCHOENNER, manufacturer at Nuremberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Drawing-Pens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to drawing pens which can be cleaned without altering the adjustment for the width of the line by the arrangement of a bolt on one of the penhalves, which bolt engages with the adjusting-screw of the penhalves.
Compared with the already known forms of construction this invention possesses the advantage of making special guides and pivots for the locking-bolt unnecessary; this is attained by constructing the locking-bolt as a U-shaped piece pivotally arranged on the bolt of the adjusting-screw, which rests during use on the one side against the adjustingscrew nut and on the other side against the flexible pen-half, thereby pressing the latter down; when however this U-shaped piece is turned to one side, said flexible pen-half is freed and can take up a position in the hollow portion of said U-shaped piece.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a front view. F 3 is a side view showing the pen open. Fig. 4 is a section taken at the point where the adjusting screw is secured showing the pen in closed position. Fig. 5 is a like view showing the pen open.
To the fixed pen-half (t is attached the adjusting-screw-bolt b, threaded along its whole length, on which the adjusting-screwnut (Z is arranged on the outer side of the flexible pen-half 0. Between this nut (Z and the pen-half c a U-shaped piece of metal 6 is pivotally arranged, the screw-bolt I) passing through the center of its raised portion, and
its form corresponding approximately to the exterior form of the flexible pen-half c. The
arms of this piece (5 are provided with feetf and g, which rest on the outer side of the flexible pen-half under the spring action of the same when the pen is in use. The foot 9 on the side of the cavity h of the flexible penhalf is so long that it projects over said cavity and can be used as a handle. In order to lock this piece c in the position for use, the foot f is provided with a small projection i which engages with or catches in a longitudinal slit /c of the half 0 and is kept in this position by the spring action of the flexible penhalf. lf now this piece (2 is turned about 90, the pen-half c is freed and can move away from the other pen-hall until arrested by the raised or hollow portion of the piece 0, that is, the portion next to the nut (Z. T herelore the pen-halves will separate to an extent corresponding to the height ol the raised portion of the U-shaped piece c (Figs. 3 and 5), in which position they can be easily cleaned.
hat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A drawing pen having an opening in one of its blades, an adjusting screw passing through said opening and secured in the other blade, and a U-shaped piece pivotally mounted on said bolt and having its ends adapted to engage with the spring blade when the pen is closed and adapted to be turned to the side to allow the spring blade to enter its hollow portion when the pen is open, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.-
GG. SCHOENNER.
