Description

No. 871,036- PATENTED NOV. 12, 1907.
I HEUSBR;
SAFETY RAZOR.
' APPLIOATION rum) JAN. 14. 1907.
WITNESSES INVENTOH ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES LEONARD HEUSER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1907.
Application filed January 14, 1907. Serial No. 352,152.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD Hnusnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Safety-Razor, of which the following is lull, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its object to provide a safety attachment'simple in construction, effective in operation and durable in use, adapted to be used with razors of ordinary or special construction. Such objects I accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which embody my invention in its preferred form, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention attached to a razor blade; Fig. 2 is the opposite side of the device shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a guard detached from the razor; and Fig. 4 is an elevation of the opposite side of the guard shown in Fig. 3.
In the accompanying drawings, a device embodying my invention is shown applied to a razor having a shank 1 attached to a handle 2 by means oi a pivot 13, these parts being of the ordinary well known construction. The shank is provided with a heel 4 having a slotted recess, indicated by dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2, adapted to receive the inner end of a blade 5. The
back of the blade is provided with a sleeve 6 adapted to receive a stem 7 formed on the shank of the razor, and held in engagement with said sleeve by means of a milled head 8 having a threaded engagement with the outer end of said stem. The razor shown herein is provided with a guard having a longitudinal bearing bar 9 provided with retaining lips 10 adapted to bear thereof, and serve as stops to limit the outcrinovement of the razor relative to that of the bearing bar 9. The guard is held in place on the razor by means oi a spring latch having an arm ilIl. fixedly secured at its end to the central portion of the guard, a coiled loop 12, and a cl ampiug arm 13 having a hooked terminal 14, thereby adapted to exert a lateral as well as a vertical pressure on the back of the razor blade. The guard is readily removed from the razor blade by raising the free end of the clamping arm 13 and releasing the ell-set end or hook 1-1 from engagement with the back of the razor.
Having thus described my invention, what I. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A rnzor' guard comprising a main frame having a bearing bar, and retaining lips arranged at the ends of said hill, :1 spring comprising an arm fixedly attached at its end to the central portion of suid main frame, a spiral loop formed integrally with said arm, and an arm formed integral with said loop, provided with a hook end adapted to engage the back of a razor blade and exert a vertical and lateral pressure thereon.
A rnzor guard comprising a main frame having a bearing bar, and retaining lips arranged at the ends oi said bar, a spring comprising an arm fixedly attached to the central portion of the main frame and provided with a loop, and an arm extending from said loop and provided with a hooked end adapted to engage the back of a razor blade and exert a vertical and lateral pressure thereon.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEONARD HEUSER.
