Be it known that I, HERBERT B. SABIN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Flower-Pots, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The objects of the invention are to provide a portable stand in which the legs can be folded alongside of the stem portion, and in which the stem is adjustable in. length, and is provided with a laterally adjustable holder for vases, lamps, flower pots, or analogous devices, so that it can be utilized for temporary use in display windows, or in fiorists displays of any character to hold flowers in pots or vases.

A further object is to provide the holding device with a pivotal movement whereby the pots holding flowers can be tilted in any desirable direction to display the flowers to the best advantage.

The invention comprises the folding base, and the vertically adjustable head portion, in which a spring fork is provided with clamping arms, arranged. to embrace the object to be displayed.

The invention further consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the claims. 1 V

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete stand, Fig. 2 is a plan View of the metal socket or base plate in which the sliding and folding legs are secured; Fig. 3 is a vertical central section of. the base plate; Fig. l is a vertical section through the joint of one of the swinging clamps; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of .the parts of this joint.

In these views 1 is the tubular metal stem. 2 is the base plate, provided with the central hub 3 and opening 4, and also having radial slots 5 extending into the central opening and countersunk at 6 to receive the heads of the metal legs. 7 are the legs which consist of metal rods having enlarged heads 7 preferably of conical shape to fit the countersunk o enings in the base plate 2. j

serted, thus maintaining them in place, and the legs are then spread apart at their lower ends to form a tripod on which the stand rests. The innenextremities of the legs are shown to have three bearing points on the base plate one on each side of the slot and one on the lower edge of the base plate, and slots 15, 15, in the lower face of the base plate prevent the legs from lateral movement.

Inserted in the upper end of the stem is a rod 8 which is adjustable therein by means of a set screw 9. At the top of this rod is shown a fork 10 having sides of spring metal, which can easily be forced .a art, and at the upper extremity of each for side is pivoted at 11 a semicircular clamp 12. Between these clamps a flower pot, vase or analogous object can be inserted and the rimof a pot will rest securely upon the upper edges of the clamps 12, which can be rotated upon their pivots 11, to present the crown of the flowers to the front, and make them a pear to the best possible advantage. The 0 amps 12 are also formed of spring metal, which in connection with the spring fork sides permits the introduction into the clamps of many sizes of objects, since the spring sides of the fork move laterally apart, and the semi-circular clamps will open and conform to any size of object.

By means of a screw threaded pivot upon one side of the fork, and a thumb nut 13 thereon, as shown in Fig. 4, one of the semi-circular clamps can be secured at any angle desired so that if the object held between the clamps should project further upon one side than the other the preponderance of weight would n t tip it over.

If the object is heavy it will be necessary to notch the meeting edges of the clamp and spring extremity, or secure radially toothed plates thereto as shown at 14 in Fig. 5 so as to absolutelyprevent rotation.

I do notlimit the invention to florists uses, but the device can be utilized for a large number of purposes such asalamp or display stand for any purpose.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A base for a stand comprising a centrally perforated and screw threaded plate, and with radial slots communicating with said central opening and having countersunk openings at their outer ends, legs comprising metal rods, inserted in said slots, and having heads at both ends, the heads at the inner ends thereof resting within said countersunk openings, and means for closing the central opening toretain the legs in the slot, substantially as described.
