Description

PATBNTED MAR. 3, 1908 J. F. HAYBS5 DUMP WAGON. APPLICATION FILED JUNE .7, 1907.
Fig. 1.
ururnn 'rEs arnnr r n nuirr-wecon.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 3, 1908.
Application filed June 17.1907- Serial No; 379,381.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jos rPH F. HAYES, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Broad Brook, in the county of Tolland and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dump- VVagons, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates more especially 'to that class of dumping wagons or carts having side parts constituting a portion of the frame and upon which the body is mounted, and the object of my invention is to provide a device of this class which shall enable an extremel free and easy movement of the body to be 0 tained in the dumping operation, and
also one in which the body is nicely balanced;
and a further object of the invention is to provide a means that while serving as a support upon which the body is pivoted also acts as a strengthening means for the frame, A form of device in the use of which these ob-.
- jects may be attained is illustrated in the ac-' ing my invention.
comp anyingdrawings in which;
Figure 1 1s a side view of a wagon embody- Fig. 2 1s a detail-perspective view on enlarged scale of a portion of the frame of the vehicle embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is a detail view vertical crosssection through one of the side parts of the frame or reach, showing the method of mounting the body. Fi 4 is a view in cross-section through the body support.
In the accompanying drawings the letter (1 denotes the rear wheels, b the front wheels, 0 the body, (I the pole and c a platform upon which a seat f is located, all of these parts relating to a dumping wagon and being of usual form and construction, as plainly shown in Fig. lot the drawings.
The numeral 6 indicates the side parts of the reach or frame of the running gear which are secured at or near their ends in any desirable and convenient manner to the axle gs There are two of these side parts 6 located underneath the sills? at each side of the wagon body. The rear end of each of the side arts 6 is curved as at 8, this curve being on t 1e arc'of a circle the center of which is coincidentwith the center of the supporting rod 9. This supporting rod extends between firmly unites the side parts 6 of the frame or reach.
A plate 12 is set into the inner surface of each of the side parts 6 of the reach, the shoulder 11 on the rod 9 preferably abutting against this plate. A bracket 13 is piv'otally mounted upon the rod or support 9, this bracke't being secured at its upper end to the sill 7 of the wagon body, it of course bein understood that there is a bracket secure to the sills at opposite sides of the wagon rod or support 9, thelatter projecting through this hub. Roller bearings 15 are located between the inner surface of the hub and the outer-surface of the rod or support, thus forming a means whereby the Wagon body may be easily moved or rotated upon the support. A retaining plate 16 also located on the support closes the chamber Within ich the roller bearings 15 are located and a sleeve 17 fitted upon the rod extends between the retaining plates 16 a purtenant to each of the brackets 13.. This s eeve forms a means for retaining the partsin position and also acts as a spacer for the parts at op osite sides of the frame or reach.
he curved portions S-for1n a guide about body. The lower end ofthis bracket is that on account of parts 6 of the reach that a supporting rod 9 ofcomparatively small dimensions may be employed and yet be suliiciently strong to is in a horizontal position is borne by the frame composed in part of the side parts 6.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with an axle and its supports, a frame including side parts sesupport the weight required of .it. The r weight of the body of course when the latter 1 cured to the axle, a wagon body including sills overlying the side parts, a support eX- tending between the side parts and firmly secured to each to prevent lateral movement thereof, and brackets secured to the sills.
- 2. In combination with an axle and its supports, a frame including side arts secured to the axle, a wagon body including sills overlying the side parts,- a support having a shoulder engaging uch ot said side sills ovpflying the side parts, a plate secured to the inner hit-e ol each side part, it supportparts and secured at the outer filll'l itt't thcre of, and brackets secured to the sills and pix:- otnllyengugcd with said support. I D 5 3. In combination with on nxle and its supports, a l'rzinie including side pnrts s c cured theretopu wagon bod) including sills overlying the side ports, :i'support xtending between the side parts nnd secured t the in outer surl'ce of ouch, u bracket secured to each sill and pivot-Lilly Ull il'ilglllg said support, and a spacer located between said brackets. -l. Tn combination with an axle and its supports, it fruine including side part-s se-' 15 cured to the axle, a wagon body including .5. In combination with an axle and its supports, a frame including sido parts secured to the axle,' a wagon body including,
hnving; n shouldor engaging each of said plutes and projecting througlreuch side part; and secured ut the bitter surface thereof, 2i brueket secured to'ench sill and having an opening for the reception of said support, afnti'l'rietion bearings located insnid openingbetween the support and brackets, u plate. closing said opening, and n spacer located on the support and between said plates.
t3. In combination with. an uxle and its supports, it l'ruinc including side parts secured to the nxle, zi wugon body mounted upon the side parts and having sills, a support extending between theside parts, a bracket secured to eachsill and liming, an opening tor the reception of suid support, anti-friction bearings located in suid openings between the support and the brackets,
and means for closing the openings in the i brackets.
In testimony whereof I iittix nrtgsignature in presence oltwo witnesses.
JOSEPH F. HAYES.
