PATENTBD MAR. 3,1908.

RAY S. MATTINGLEY, OF ROCKPORT, INDIANA.
PLOW ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 3 1908.
Application filed March 30 1907- Serial No. 365.531.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAY S. MATTINGLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockport, in the county of Spencer and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Plow Attachment, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention has relation to disk attachments for plows and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide an attachment which may be easlly and readily applied to the beam of a plow and which consists of a standard to the lower end of which is attached an adjustable spindle. A
disk is journaled upon the spindle and means is provided for adjusting the said spindle latorally with relation to the standard. Abrace is attached at its lower end to the lower portion of the standard and at its upper end to the beam of the plow. A fender is attached to the lower end of the standard and a link is attached at its forward end to the forward end of said fender and at its rear end to the standard.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure l is a side elevation of the attachment applied to a plow beam. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the lower portion of the attachment, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the lower portion of the standard.
The attachment consists of the standard 1 the lower end of which is laterally bent or disposed as at 2. The shaft 3 passes transversely through the lower portion of the standard 1 and may be adjusted longitudinally therein and held in such adjusted posi-' tion by means of the clamp bolt 4 which passes through the said standard 1 and. engages the shaft The shaft 3 is hollow and is provided at one end with the hemispherical head 5 which is provided with an elongated slot 6. The bolt 7 has its head. located within the head 5 of the said shaft and said bolt projects laterally through the slot 6. The sleeve 8 is substantially conical and is concaved at its inner end to receive the outer surface of the head 5. The belt 7 passes longitudinally through the sleeve and through the cap 9 located over the end. of the said sleeve. Said cap is provided with. an. annular flange 10 which receives the end of the sleeve and the cap is provided with an.
elongated opening 11 through which the said bolt 7 passes. The nut 12 is screwthreaded upon the end of the bolt 7 and holds the parts in proper position. It will thus be observed that the sleeve 8 forms an adjustable spindle upon which the disk 13 is journaled and that by loosening the nut 12 that the said sleeve may be so positioned with relation to the shaft 3 as to pitch. the disk 13 at any desired angle to the line of draft. The brace 14 is attached at its lower end to the lower portion of the standard 1 and is secured at its upper end by means of a bolt 15 to the plow beam 16. The upper portion of the standard 1 is fixed to the said beam by means of a clamp 17. The fender 18 is attached at one end to the lower end of the standard 1 and extends in a forward direction and is curved upwardly at its intermediate portion and then extends rearwardly and downwardly along the outer surface of the disk 13. Thus the said standard is substantially U-shaped in plan and curved longitudinally. The link 19 is attached at its forward end to the intermediate forward portion of the fender 18 and is provided at its rear end with an elongated slot 20 which receives the bolt 21 V ard 1. Thus it will be observed that provision is made for adjusting the fender with relation to the disk and the standard. The said fender is adapted to turn the vegetation under the furrow.
From the foregoing description it is obvious that a disk cultivating attachment is provided which may be easily and readily applied to the beam of a plow and the parts of which may be quickly adjusted as conditions or fancy may require.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is 1. plow attachment comprising a standard, a hollow shaft passing through the same and having a hemispherical end provided with a transverse slot, said shaft being capapassing through the standble of longitudinal and axial adjustment on the standard, a spindle located at the hernispherical' end of the shaft, a bolt passing longitudinally through said spindle and the slot in the shaft and a disk journaled upon the spindle. I
2. A plow attachment comprising a standard, a hollow shaft passing through the same and having a hemispherical end provided with a transverse slot, said shaft being capable of longitudinal and axial adjustment on the standard, a spindle located at the hemi- I my own, I have hereto affixed my signature spherical end (pf tfhe kslhaft,a (clap beiripg against in the presence of two Witnesses. the outer en 0 t e spin e, a 0 t passing T through said cap, the spindle and the slot in RAY MATTE GLEY' 5 the shaft, and a disk journaled for rotation Witnesses:
upon the spindle. JOHN B. STUART,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as RICHARD E. ROYAL.
