IMPROVEMENT m Sill-HIGHS.-
The Schedule referred m in these Letters Patent and making part of the name To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O. P. KIMJBALL, of Portland, in the county of Cumberland, and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sleighs; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of my invention, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which is shown a view of a portion of a sleigh, with my improvement thereon.
My. invention relates to a new and improved method of attaching the brace-irons to the posts of the run;
ners of light sleighs, such as are now commonly made.
These posts, that extend from the runners up to the sleigh-bars, are, of necessity, now made very slender, to conform to the proportions of the sleigh itself.
a shows part of one of the cross-bars, running across from one side to the other, and upon which thesleighbody rests. These are generally three in number.
b is the post, extending down from the cross-piece to the runner, which runner is shown in section at c.
The post b, the cross-bar a, and the joint of these two parts, at d, are braced by the brace e, bolted, riveted, or screwed to the cross-bar a, and to the post b. But, with the slender sizeof b, it has been found to be the fact that the bolt, passing through 7), although the brace is sufiioiently strong, weakens the post, and if it breaks at all, it is where this bolt passes through.
Instead of the bolt through the post b, I therefore fasten the said brace to the post by means of the clip nuts. Thus the iron is firmly clamped to the slender runner-post, and no hole made in the post.
The detail, B, shows an outside view of the runner post, with the clip thereon.
I do not, of course, claim a clip, neither do I limit myself to any particular conformation of clip for this purpose, but desire to claim a clip encompassing the runner-post of a sleigh, to hold the brace e, and to avoid making a hole through the post. i
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The sleigh-bracee, having the projection m, in combination with the clip j; as herein described, and for the purposes set' forth.
0., P. KIMBALL.
