UNITED STATES PATENToFFIcE.
OHARLESL. I-IILLE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
. WATCH-FOB.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1.908.
Application filed June 16, 1906. Serial No. 322.115. Renewed October 4. 1907! Serial No. 395.965-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. I-IILLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch-Fobs; and I-do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
This invention relates to improvements in watch fobs, and more particularly in the way in which the charm is held in position.
The invention comprises the production of a suitable strap made of leather or other desirable material, and formed with reduced portions for accommodating a charm and clasp, and also provided with a fastener for holding the strap in its folded position.
The object in view is the production of a watch fob that may have the charm easily attached or removed and yet firmly hold the same in place.
Another object in View is the production of a fob that will permit the easy removal or interchanging of the charm and the clasp or suspending device, and at the same time will be adapted to be firmly held in position at all times.-
In the accompanying drawing: Figure represents a plan view of the preferred embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 re resents a plan viewof a fob embodying the eatures of my invention, the same being unfolded to better disclose the reduced portions formed therein. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view of a stud and socket and surrounding parts forming part of the present invention.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, I provide a strap 1, of any suitable material. Intermediate the ends of the strap 1 is formed reduced portions 2=--2, while at one end is formed a reduced portion 3. The reduced portion 2-2 is adapted to accommodate a clasp or sustaining member 4 secured to any suitable sustaining device, as chain 5. Secured to the strap 1 upon the enlarged end 6 is a socket 7 adapted to receive the stud 8 secured to the reduced portion 3:
Surrounding the enlarged portion 6 is a strap or band 9 which is securely held in place by the flange of the socket 7. The socket 7 extends through the portion 6 and the strap 9, and is formed with a head 10 for securely holding in place the strap 9, as well as to give an ornamental effect to the fob.
In use the clasp or sustaining device 4 is first placed in position by being slipped over the end 3 and forced into the reduced portions 22, and then the reduced portion 3 is folded over and'passed beneath the strap 9. The charm 11 is then placed in position over the inner end of the reduced portion 3, and then the end 3 is forced back under the strap 9'until the stud 8 comes opposite the socket 7, and then the same is pressed until the socket 7 and stud 8 firmly engage each other. After the fob has been thus assembled, as
will be seen in Fig. 1, the same will remain in V such position until the stud 8 has been forcibly removed from the socket 7.
By this particular arrangement of strap and fastening means, a fob of more or less fanciful appearance is produced, and at the same time a very sim 1e and practical device is presented. The fo as will be seen may be easily and cheaply made, and yet have the appearance and usefulness of a more expensive device.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1: A fob, comprising a strap having reduced portions, strap suspending means, said I 2. A fob, comprising a strap formed With a plurality of reduced portions, a charm suspended from one of said reduced portions, fob securing means encircling the other of said reduced portions, a band surrounding the fob for assisting in holding the fob in its folded position, and fastening means for securing the fob together positioned beneath said band.
3. A fob, comprising a strap, a socket thereon, a stud secured on one end of said strap and adapted to engage said socket When the strap is in its folded position, means surrounding said strap when'in its folded position for covering said stud and socket and for assisting the same in holding the fob in 10 its folded position, and means for suspending said fob.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
