PENHOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
W Patented Feb. 11, 1908.
Application filed Au ust 13, 1907. $eria1 No. 388,332.
To all whom it may cocern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD C. HART, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Russiaville, in the county of Howard and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Penholder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to pen-holders, and has for its object to provide an improved device of this character which will firmly hold a pen, and which is provided with mechan ism for releasing said pen when the same is used up.
IrIeretofore much annoyance has been experienced in extracting an old pen from a pen holder as continued use serves to tighten their hold in the pen-holder. This invention simplifies that matter.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pen-holder constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. i Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3 -3 of Fig. 2. .Fig. 4 is a similar view to Fig. 3, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the locking pin.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the ordinary casing which forms a pen-holder. The casing 1 is provided witha depending arm 2 on which is pivotally mounted a lever 3, the other end thereof having an enlargement 4 as shown. The inner end of saidlever is provided with a locking-pin 5 which is adapted to hold the enlargement 4 with engagement with a pen for holding the same firmly in the holder as will be clearly under stood. The upper end of the locking-pin 5 .passes through a T-shaped slot 6, and is provided with a recessed portion 7, which engages said slot. When it is desired to lock the pen in its place, the locking-pin -5 is depressed and shoved forwardly which thereby ocks the pen in its desired position. WVhen the pen is thus locked, the locking-pin 5 will be inclined forwardly thus reducing to a minimum the likelihood of the same becoming unlocked.
What is claimed is A pen holder comprising a casing having a slot, a depending T-shaped arm mounted in said casing, a lever pivotally mounted thereon, said lever being adapted to engage a pen with its outer end, a locking pin pivotally connected with the inner end of said lever and adapted to operate in the slot, said locking pin being provided with a reduced portion for locking the same in its normal position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
