PATENTy OFFICE.
FRANK W. SEIDL, OFMANITOWOC, WISCONSIN:
' CLASP.
' Specication.- of LettersPatent.
' intenten sept. 24, 1907.
Application filed January' 3,1906. Serial No. 294,359.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK W. Smm., a citizen of the United States, residing at Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, o which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a clasp, especially adapted for use with neck chains, and it consists in the constructions, combinations and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive and durable form of c1asp,which can be conveniently closed and opened and which will be positively locked in closed position.
preventing opening of the clasp under abnormal strain.V
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application and in which reference symbols indicate corresponding parts in the several views: Figure 1 is' a longitudinal sectional view, illustrating one embodiment of my invention with the two members of the clasp disengaged, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the tubular vmember 1l and the .reinforcing ring 5". i
In the drawings, I have shown a preferred embodiment, comprising a. tubular member 11 provided with slots 21, 31, 41- and a reinforcing ring 51, similar to the slots 2, 3 and 4 and ring 5 shown in Fig. 1. A plunger 10, .constructed to enter the tubular member 11, is provided with a radial lug 11 for lockingly engaging the slots 21, 31, and 41 of the outer tubular member. v The plunger 1i) is provided with a spindle 12 slidably mounted in the bore of a sleeve 13; said bore being enlarged'throughout a portion of its length for receiving a spring 14 and a head 15 secured to the spindle 12.and slidably engaging said bore.
' From the above description, it will be seen that the spring 14 is confined between the head 15 and the bottom oi the enlarged bore in the sleeve 13; thereby acting to normally maintain the lug 11 in the pocket 41 when the two clasp members are locked together.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A clasp comprising a tubular member provided with n slot terminating in a pocket, a plunger constructed to .snugly t within said tubular member, n lug carried by ysaid plunger and adapted to enter said slot and seat against the bottom-wall of said pocket, a reinforcing ring secured about the periphery o! said tubular member nt n slight axial distance from the bottom wall of snid pocket, whereby pressure of said lug against the bottom wall of the pocket will be borne entirely by said tubular member without the exertion of any displacing pressure on said reinforcing ring, a spindle carried by suid plunger, a sleeve slidably engaging said spindle and provided with an enlarged bore throughout n portion of its length, a head secured to said spindle and slidnbly mounted in the enlarged bore of said sleeve, and a spring confined in said enlarged bore between said slidable head and the bottom of said bore, substantially as described.
lIn testimony whereof I uix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
" FRANK W. snmL.
