Be it'known that l, JOSEPH TAMBovu, a
. subject of the Emperor ofAustria-Hungary,
lresiding at Nanterre, near Paris, France, have ,invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Automatic Safety Appliances for Locking the 'Hammer and the Sear of Small-Arms, of which the following is a specification. Y
This invention relates to yan vautomatic safety locking appliance for small arms and consists essentially-in that a locking lever of known construction projecting from the stock is adapted to lock the hammer both in its cocked and in its uncooked position, the same lever being also arranged to lock the sear direct and consequently,through the medium of the sear also the trigger, so that a pressure exerted upon the trigger will remain without any eiiect; as soon owever as the stock of the arm is grasped by the hand ready for firing the said locking lever is being pressed into the stock and releases the above mentioned parts of the lock. For this purose the safety locking lever on the one hand 1s arranged to bear against the hammer disk in the position of rest of the latter and to support the saine direct in its locked position andwhen the hammer is cocked the said lever engages a safety bent of the hammer disk on the other Ahand the said lever is arranged to bear against the sear and to support the same.
. The accompanying drawings represent by Way of example the safety appliance adapted to a revolver provided with an intermediate percussion member between the hammer and the percussion pin (an Iver Johnson res volver).
Figures 1 @a 3 represent the arm in a locked position and Figs. 2 ot 4 in an unlocked position and viz., Fig. 1 shows the arm with the hammer in position of rest, Fig. 2 in half cocked position, Fig. 8 represents the arm with the hammer cocked and Fig. 4 shows the position of the arts of the arm immediately after a shot ias been fired.
The hammer disk a is provided on its rear end with a beveled part a which is sup- )orted bythe upper end of the safety lever l) when the hammer is let down in its position of rest (Fig. 1). In consequence of the lever end bearing against the bevel a of the hammer the cooking of the latter is rendered absolutely impossible either by hand or by an unintentioned stroke or pull o'l'- the trigger c to which, in the form o' execution shown in the drawings, is articulated the intermediate percussion member d that engages in the hammer disk. A t lthe same time a projecting stub t" oi the safety lever o bears agai st a projection c o'i ilw intentioned pressure :ierted upon the seai' end e2 that projects within the trigger gua-rd can neither actuate the trigger nor, in the example shown in the drawings, produce the insertion of the intermediate percussion member (Z articulated to ythe trigger, between the hammer disk a and the percussion pin z.
YWhen the hammeris cocked (Fig. 3) the upper end of the safety lever Z) comes by means of a notch b2 in engagement with a safety bent o provided on the hammer disk o whereas the stub b ot the safety lever continues to bear against the proiection c of the sear so that the parts oi; the lock remain safely locked in this position also. When the arm is grasped by the hand ready for i'iring the safety lever t is pressed into the stock (Figs. .2 da Ll) and during this displacement oli' the leverits upper end comes to stand outside the path et the hammer disk whereas the stub L" of the lever comes to stand outside the path of the sear so that the actuated. the saiety lever o ceases this lever actuated by a spring g returns into its l'oekingposis tion.
ln the example ot execution represented in the drawiiigs the safety appliance is conneeted with a locking device of the kind described in the speciiieation to U. S.` application S. N. 306893 liled 1) h'lareh '1905. The bottom end ol the safety lever b is provided with a bealeshaped shoulder 7i that carries a projecting part m 'whicli is arranged to act in conjunction with the bolt 7c ot the suspension ring i of the arm in order to lock or unlock the safety lever o. lil/'hen the bolt k is in its unlocking position (Figs. i2, 3 @c 11) the safety lever o is capable of being swung inwards, the spring action oi" the part m preventing the lever i) from being jammed against the locking bolt when the safety lever b is swung inwards and the suspension. rin'ri is improperly turned into its loc ig pos tien, because the safety lever'immeui upon being released will return at once te the locking position under the ac e spring g and wili tien ci tn seir e so that an u;
be held in that position as long as the suspension ring remains in its lockingposition (Fig. 1).
Claim. Y
1. In automatic safety appliances for rearms, the combination with a trigger, a sear, and a hammer disk, of a locking lever directly engaging said Sear and hammer disk when the latter is in its cocked or uncooked osition, and means forlocking the said ever. y
2. In automatic safety appliances vfor firearms, the combination with a trigger, a sear, and a hammer disk, of a looking lever directly engaging said sear and hammer disk when the latter is in its cocked or uncooked position. l,
3. In automatic safety ap lianc'es'f'or firearms, the combination wit a trigger, an elongated sear, and a hammer disk,- ofa locking lever directly engaging said sear and hammer diskI when the latter 1s in its cocked or uncooked position. A
4. In automatic safety appliances for {irearms, the combination of a tri ger, an elongated sear, and a hammer disl with a beveled'projection and a safety bent, and a look-Y ing lever directly engaging said scar and hammer disk when the latteris in its cocked or uncooked position'.
5. Inautomatic appliances for firearms, the combination with a trigger, an elongated sear having a terminal proJection, a hammer disk with a. lbeveled projection and a safety bent, of a locking lever directly engaging said-scar and hammer disk when the latter is in its cocked or uncooked position. 6. In automatic safety ap liances for firearms, the combination wit a trigger an elongated sear having a terminal proiection, a hammer disk with a beveled projection and a safety bent, of a locking lever having a projection', a notch, and a stud for directly en-,
gaging 'therespective ortions. of the seat and the hammer disk w en the latter is in its cocked or uncooked position.
In testimony whereof I have my hand in Witnesses.
