The pistol in the present embodiment ot my invention' is provided with the mainslide C, and with the rigid breech-broek E wholly carrying the tiring-pin P, the mainslide C having a guiding means or forked lug or projection C 'for the Firing-pin F.

The spring VSe is operatively connected to the grip-operable or grip-safety member G at its lower end and abuts a plunger 8 which is carried by the grip-operable or grip-safety member, which plunger also provides a seat for the lower end of the connecting rod 8b which is pivotally attached at its upper end to the firing member or hammer lil, the purpose of the spring 8e being to move the iiring member or hammer to fired position, and to afford grip-compression of the grip-operable or grip-safety member, and to return the grip-operable ror gripsafety member to position of safety after grip-compression. The construction and arrangement of the spring 8e, plunger 8c and rod 8b is preferably the same as the const-rnction and arrangement of these parts described and shown in my said copending application, Serial No. 311,689 filed July 17th, 1919. n
The trigger member F is movable forwardly by means not shown, and by pull thereon is movable rearwardly. The trigger member F is received in an opening or slot 21 in the grip-stock of the pistol, the opening or slot 21 being of such length as to allow considerable play or movement of the trigger member downwardly and upwardly. The trigger member VF is provided with an end-face 22 which is intended to engage or contact with the end-face 14 of the rocking slide-detainer and controller N, and is provided with a mortise recess 23 having a face 24s which is intended to engage or contact with the end-face 17d of the sear member S, the arrangement being such that the end-face 22 will first engage or Contact with the end-face 14 of the slide-detainer and controller N to move the slide-detainer and controller, and that the face 24 will subseqnently engage or contact with the end-face 17d or the sea-r member S to move the sear f member'.

As the iiring 'member or hammer H is moved from firing position to tired position the arm 28 engages or bears down upon the upper edge of the trigger member F and forces the end of the trigger-member downwardly in the opening orslot 2l against the compression ot the actuator 25, and thereby provides clearance or Vspace to permit 'upward swinging movement. of the sear melliber S and upward movement ot' the lower end of the rocking slide-detaiuer and controller N.
As the tiring member or hammer H is moved it'rom tired position to iiring or cocked position and grip-compression of the gripoperable or grip-safety member G is released, and this member returns to position of satety, the pressure of the arm 28 on the trigger member F is relieved and the trigger member is moved upwardly in the slot 2l to its first position by the actuator 25; the rocking slide-detainer and controller N is rocked or moved upwardly by the actuator 20 into position for locking the main-slide C against rearward movement, and the swinging sear member is moved or swung upwardly by the actuator 20 to lock he firing member or hammer H in liring position, while the blocking member 12 through pressure of the actuating springs 13 and 13, as the grip-operable or gripsa'lfety member (l is moved to position ol safety, moved into position ior blocliim` the scar member inV saiil locking position, and 'for blocking the rocking slide-detainer and controller N in its locking position.
