To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH DAVID, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sham Roll-Bolsters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this speci- 'Iication My invention relates to a sham roll bolster for use upon beds during the periods that the beds are unoccupied and into which pillows may be placed and the invention has for its object the production of a bolster of this character which is simple and efficiently made to retain its shape when in use and which is of such construction that a number of the holsters may be nested together in a knock-down condition for transportation or storage.

1 designates the body sheet of my bolster which may be of straw board or any other suitable pliable material that will permit of said body being formed into semi-circular shape and will yield to permit of the body being spread and contracted.

2 is a covering of cloth or other suitable material which incases the body sheet. This covering is of sufficient length to permit of its extending at one end of the bolster across said end as seen at 3, Figs. I and II. The covering at this end contains a drawstring 4 by which the end portion of the covering may be drawn into a gathered condition at' the cenlter of the end of the bolster-to close said enc The end of the covering contains a rosette that comprises the following members. 5 and 6 are disks preferably of straw board and 7 is a covering by which said disks are inclosed as seen in Fig. II. One of the disks with its covering, for instance that 6, is passed through the covering at the end of the bolster before the draw string 4 istightened and to complete the rosette and permit the tightening of the draw string 4 a binding string 8 is tied around the covering of the rosette disk before the draw string 4 is brought into a tightened condition. The covering 2 is folded into the interior of the body sheet of the bolster at its end opposite that over which the end of the covering at 3 is drawn, as seen at 9. Within the last named end of the bolster is an end section that consists of a hoop 10, see Fig. IV,. and a covering 11 for said hoop which contains an inner draw string 12 and an outer central draw string 13. In the outer portion of the covering 11 is a rosette that consists of a pair of

14 and 15 inclosed within a covering 16 and which, like the rosette at the opposite en'd of the bolster, are adapted to be mounted in the end covering 11 before the draw string 13 is tightened. To produce the rosette last mentioned a binding string 17 is tied around the disk covering 16 before the draw string 13 is tightened. The end section composed of the parts just described, is adapted to seat within the body sheet of the bolster and press against the inturned portion 9 of the covering 2, whereby it prevents collapse of the body sheet at the end of the bolster in which it is placed.

18 is a hoop seated in the end of the bolster closed by the covering 2 at 3 and 19 is an intermediate or central hoop both of which serve to prevent collapse of the bolster body sheet.

20 are strips of wood or other suitable 'material extending longitudinally of the body sheet 1 at its edges and which are inclosed within the covering 2.

21 are buckle carrying straps secured to one of the strips 2O and equipped with

22 and 23 are straps secured to the other strip 2() and adapted to be engaged by the buckles 22. When the hoops and end section of the bolster have been put in place the

21 and 23 are connected through the medium of the buckles 22 and, being drawn tightly, they serve to draw the body sheet of the bolster to the hoops and end section with the result of holding all parts of the bolster in a Iirm condition in order that the bolster may be put to use.

A large number of the hereindescribed sham bolsters may be readily nested for transportation and storage by placing the hoops and end sections of the entire number of bolsters within one of the holsters and then extending the bodies of the remaining holsters so that they may be assembled exterior of the first named to fit snugly therearound. I claim: 1. A sham roll bolster comprising abody 5 sheet, a covering incasing said body sheet and extending across one end of the bolster to provide a closure at said end, a draw string in said closure, a hoop Within the bolster adjacent to said closure, an end section at the opposite end of the bolster comprising a hoop, and a covering nclosing said hoop, and means for adjustably connecting the edges of said body sheet and its covering, substantially as set forth.

2. A sham roll bolster comprising a body sheet, a covering incasing said body sheet, hoops located interiorly of said body sheet, strips inclosed Within said covering, and means whereby said strips and covering .are drawn tightly to said hoops, substantially as set forth. Y

3. A sham roll bolster comprising a body sheet, a covering incasing said body sheet, hoops located interiorly of said body sheet,

strips inclosed Within said covering, and

straps secured to said strips adapted to be connected to draw said body sheet to said hoops, substantially as set forth.

4. A sham'roll bolster comprising a body sheet, a covering incasing said body sheet and extending across one end of the bolster to provide a closure at said end, a draw string in said closure, and aA rosette comprising a pair of disks, a covering for said disks, and a binding string Wrapped around said covering `betvveen said disks,asubstan tially as set forth.

5. An end section for a sham roll bolster comprising. a hoop, a covering inclosing said hoop and containing draw strings by Which the covering is held around the hoop, and a rosette and a portion of said end section covering comprising a pair of disks, a covering incasing said disks, and a binding string Wrapped around said disk covering between said disks, substantially as set forth;
