PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 24, 1907.
Application filed January 31, 1907. Serial No. 355,169.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN J ARRELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Riverdale, in the county of Sumner and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to plows and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a novel form of detachable share adapted to be applied to the forward end of the mold board of a plow and which may be readily removed for sharpening, substitution and other purposes. The device consists primarily of a brace which is bolted or otherwise secured to the back of-the mold board and has its end projecting beyond the upper forward portion of the mold board. A landside is located in the same plane as the lower edge of the mold board and the lower end of said brace is bolted'or otherwise secured to the rear portion of said landside. A clip is attached to the forward end of the landside and is also attached to the rear side of the forward portion of themold board in the vicinity of the lower edge thereof. A bar is attached to the forward portion of the brace and the rear portion of said clip and is consequently spaced from the rear side of the mold board. The lower end of the said share is provided with a laterally extending portion which fits under said clip and is provided with a stud which enters a perforation provided in the said clip. The said share is provided with a shank which fits in the space between the bar and the rear side of the mold board and is secured therein by a set screw which passesthrough said bar. The said share is intended to cleave the soil in order that the energy required for tilling the soil may be reduced to a minimum.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is an elevation of the plow looking at the rear side of the mold board thereof. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the plow, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the plow cut on the line 33 of Fig. 2. .7
The brace 1 is attached to the rear side of the mold board 2 and the upper end of the said brace projects beyond the upper portion of the forward edge of the said mold board as at 3. The landside 4 lies in the same horizontal plane as the forward portion of the lower edge of the mold board 2. Said landside is attached to the clip 5 which is angular in cross section and which is secured to the lower forward portion of the mold board 2 and upon the rear side thereof. The rear end of the brace 1 is secured to the rear portion of the landside 4. The keeper or bar 6 is secured at its upper end to the side of the brace 1 and at its lower end to the side of the clip 5. The said keeper 6 is spaced from the rear side of the mold board 2. The share 7 abuts at its rear edge against the forward edge of the mold board 2 and the rear side of the said share 7 lies against the projecting end 3 of the brace l and the forward portion of the clip 5. The said share 7 is provided at its lower end with the laterally extending nose piece 8 which fits under the clip 5. The nose piece 8 is provided with a stud 9 which fits within a perforation 10 provided in the lower portion of the clip 5. The shank 11 is attached to the rear side of the share 7 and lies within the space between the keeper 6 and the rear side of the mold board 2. The set screw 12 passes through the keeper 6 and at its inner ends enters a seat 13 provided in the shank 11 for the purpose of impinging the said shank against the rear side of the mold board 2. The share 7 is sharpened at its forward edge as at 14 which forward edge is inclined rearwardly at its upper end and is intended to cleave the soil.
From the foregoing description it is obvious that by unscrewing the set screw 12 the share 7 may be moved sidewise and forwardly' in order that the stud 9 may be disengaged from the perforation 10 when the shank 11 may be removed from between the keeper 6 and the mold board 2 and the said share detached from the mold board for the pprposes of sharpening, substitution or the Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is In a plow, the combination with the land side and the mold board, of a brace connecting the parts, a clip disposed at the intersection of the mold board and the land side and provided with elongated orifice, a keeper bolted to the mold board and spaced at both ends therefrom, a share having a nose piece my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature carrying a stud to engage the orifice of the in the presence of two Witnesses.
oh and With a shank to roject between the ke per and the mold bo ard, and a locking EDWVIN JARRELL' 5 bolt carried by the keeper and engaging a Witnesses:
seat formed in the shank. D. E. LAWLER, In testimony that I claim the foregoing as i/VM. DEDRIOK.
