Be it known that I, NIELS C. Y. Gum)- HOLM, citizen of the United States, residing at Bradfordville, in the county of Leon and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description 01' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to attachments for plows.

The object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this character by means of which the soil turned over by the mold-board of the plow will be cultivated, harrowed and rolled in one operation.

A further object is to provide means whereby the attachment may be readily aplied to and removed from the plow.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of the plow showing the application of the invention thereto; Fig. 2 is a top plan'view ol' the same Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sectional view on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 is a plan view oi the shoe employed to facilitate the moving of the plow from place to place.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, 1 denotes the plow, which is here shown as a wooden beam plow, and to the beam immediately in front of the standard is secured a right-angular supporting bar, 2, said bar being provided on its underside, adjacent to its inner end, with a right-angularly formed beam-engaging projection, 3, which is adapted to be engaged with one side and the bottom of the. beam, while the inner end of the bar, 2, enga es the upper side thereof, thus embracing t e beam on three sides. The ends of the projection, 3, and the bar, 2, extend beyond the opposite side of the beam, and on said ends is arranged a clamping plate, 4, which is adapted to fit against the adj acentside of the beam. The ends of the projection, 3, and bar, 2, are threaded, and on said threaded ends is adapted to be screwed clamping nuts, whereby the plate, 4, is tightly clamped against the beam, thereby rigidly securing the bar, 2, in place. The

bar, 2 is further held in position by means of set screws, 5, which are arranged therein as shown. The bar, 2, is further secured in position on the beam of the plow by means 01' an obliquely disposed brace bar, 6, one end of which is bolted to the bar, 2, and the 0pposite end bolted to the plow beam.

On the underside 01 the bar, 2, adjacent to its outer end, is secured a series of tapered spacing blocks, 7, between which are secured the tapered forward ends 01' a series of implements. The tapered ends of the implerents are preferably secured between the spacing block 7 by means of a clamping bar, 8, arranged beneath the same and bolted to the bar at its opposite ends, and are further secured by means of bolts, 9, which are inserted in alined apertures in the bar, 2, the tapered ends of the implements and in the clamping bar 8, thereby firmly securing the implements in position on the end of the bar.

The implements hereinbefore mentioned comprise a cutting blade, 10, which is formed on the end of a spring-arm, 12, the forward end of which is tapered and secured between the spacing blocks on the lower side of the bar, 2. Another implement secured to the bar, 2, comprises a spring-arm, 13, having its outer end provided with a half-twist or turn, and to said turned end is bolted or otherwise secured the harrow teeth, 14. Another implement carried by the bar con sists of an arm, 15, the rear end of which is tapered and bent at right-angles to form a covering or scraping blade, 16. Also secured to the bar, 2, is a pair of rearwardly projecting spring arms, 17 and 18, the arm, 18, being secured to the outer end of the bar, 2, and is provided substantially midway between its ends with an oliset portion, 19. Between the rear ends of the arms, 17 and 18, is revolubly mounted a roller, 20. On the arm, 17, is formed a loop, 21, with which is adapted to be engaged the outer end of a brace bolt, 22, the inner end of which is secured in a loop, 23, arranged on one of the plow handles.

In use, the cutting blade, 10, first engages the soil turned over by the mold-board of the plow and cuts or splits the furrow, after which the soil is engaged by the scraping blade, 16, and is then engaged by the harrow teeth, 14, which harrow and cultivate the soil and break up the lumps, or. clods, after which the roller engages the soil and crushes or pulverizes the same, these operations all taking place during the plowing of the ground, thus avoiding the necessity of going over the ground with separateharrowing and rolling machines.

Secured to the plow beam in front of the share, is a tender, 2%, which preferably consists of a pair of downwardly-extending rearWardly-inclined arms, the upper ends of which are bolted to the opposite side oi the beam, while their lower ends are spaced apart and secured together by a cross bar, One of the arms of the fender, 24, is preferably offset so as to provide sufhcient space between the arms to cause them to force or turn down all weeds so that they may be covered by the turning of the soil. The fender is held in position by me ns of a coiled spring, 25, which is secured at its lower end to the cross bar, 25-, and at its upper end to the underside of the low beam.

In orderthat the p ow and its attachments may be readily moved from place to place, i provide a shoe, 2?, which consists of a flat metal plate, one end of which is tapered to a point and is provided with a cross strip, 28, adapted to receive the point of the plow share when the latter is applied to the shoe. On the upper side of the plate, 27, of the shoe, adjacent to one edge, are secured parallel cleats 29, between which is formed a space to receive the lower edge of the landside of the plow share. By engaging the end or point of the plow share with the strip, 28, and the landside with the strip, 29, the plow may be readily drawn from one field to another, thus obviating the necessity of carrying or dragging the plow to one side, and preventing the breaking of any of the implements carried by the plow.

In an attachment for plows, a supporting bar adapted to be secured at one end to the beam of the plow, said bar having on its under side a series of tapered notches, spring supporting arms carrying cultivating implements, said arms having tapered ends to enthe tapered notches in said bar, a clamping plate on the under side of said bar and engaged with the ends of said spring arms, fastening bolts passed through said bar and plate and the tapered ends of said arms, a brace bar connected at one end to said supporting ha and at its opposite ends to said plow beam, handles on the plow, and a brace bolt connected to one of the spring arms and to one of said handles whereby said arm is held against lateral strain.
