IMPROVE-,D PA
NAATT'ACHMENT Fon TABLES.
The Schedule referred lto in these Letters Patent and maktng part o f the name.
To all whom 'it Ima/y concern; l
Be itknown that LJ. E. MANSKER, of Oli'nton,'in theparish of East Feliciana, and'State of Louisiana, have invented anew and useful Improvement; in Fan-Attachment for Tables; and I do hereby declare that the fol-` lowing is a flil1,elear, and exact vdesclipthpn thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to 'the accompany- This invention relates to improvements in fan-attachments for dining and other tables, to be operated by any suitable weight or spring-mechanism," or by treadles, as may be preferred.
The drawing'. represents a` sectional elevation of my improved apparatus. A For small tables, I propose to provide a tubular support, A, for afsuitable number `of fans, B, hinged, at the inner ends of their stems, to the said tubular sup port A, as represented'at (lt D represents aholl'ow hub,` or sleeve, provided with a hole through its vertical `axi`s`,and arranged to slide freely onv the tube A, and havinigopenings through the side, for the stems ofthe answhieh are-slotted at vthe point where they pass through-the said openings; and a ywire band,'-F, tightly fitted around the vslee\re,'in 'a groove,'passes' through theslot'sA in the handles or stems of the fans, and serves'as pivots, on which they slide A when the sleeve isre'eiprocated, and by which the vibratory move'ment'is communicated to the fans.
Instead' oijthe "wire band', the pivots may be other- The sleeve is connected by a stem or rod, G, havingr a vertical `reeipl'oeatingmovement in the ltube A, which may be* communicated to-it from anysuitable means, preferablyfarranged below the table.
The said rod G thereby communicates thenecessary movement to the fans.
A spring, H, may be arranged in the upper end of the tube, either to hold the fans in an elevated position when not working, or to accelerate the upward or downward movementof the same, as preferred.
According to this plan, as many fans as may be preferred, may be suspended from the support A, to fan persons sitting at any point around -a square or round table; but, for long tables, instead of the sleeve D, I `provide a long, hollow tube, and support it on the tube .A, at .right angles thereto; and inthe direction of the greatest length of the table, and within the said tube, L'arrange a long arm to hinge the stems of the fans to, 'ats/suitable intervals along its length, the said stems passing through slots in the tube, and being pivoted thereto similarly to the arrangement herein shown, and the said tube being reciprocate-d as`desoribed.
In this manner, I am enabled to adapt a fan-attachment to tables of any form or size, whereby they may be operated by clock-work, treadles operated bythe foot, or any other competent power, to fan the persons sitting at the table, and to drive away Having thus described my invention I claim `as new Patent- The combination of the tubular support A, reciprof. eating rod Gr, and fans B, when the latter are either pivoted to the support A andva hollow sleeve, D, or to a shaft secured `to the vsaid' support, and a hollow tube, at right angles thereto and sliding thereon, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
