INVENTOR. 6121-? lleri" said lire-pot as shown.
UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEIoE.
CARL H. MILLER, JR., OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
KITCHEN-RANGE.
which. it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in kitchen ranges, and the invention consists in a range provided with both a lire-pot l'or solid l'nel and a 'lluid l'uel burner opmatively associated with said lire-pot and the two adapted to alternate use, substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed out in the claims. i
-ln the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a l'r'ont perspective view ol a range einbod ying my invention7 and Fig. 2 is a cross section thereol'. Fig. 3 is a perspective view ol" the iluid burner mechanism and the pivoted` side wall ol the lire pot, Aas hereinafter fully described. Fig. 4 is a view oll a inodilica tion.
The range-as thus shown-is designed to be easily converted l'rom a solid fuel range to a lluid or gas range as necessity or convenienceA may require. lo this end 1` provide the range with a supplemental burner chamber C, shown as extending the full depth of the., 'lire-box or pot transversely ol" the range and covered by the. top plate. lC ol` the range and having draft openings a. at the bottom, or at any other suitable place in said chamber.
'lhe metallic wall or plate l) ol.l the range proper at the outside ollv the lire pot forms the dividing line between said chamber and lire box, and is provided with a recess er opening large enough to swing buriieis B into or over Fire brick wall or metal lining li `rests against this plate at its ends when raised and tlnis covers said recess or opening, Said wall is provided with a pivot or hinge support 2 at its bottom and a lcrank arm I extending outside the range l'or controlling the position ol' said Waller lining, as seen in full and dotted lines respectively, Fig. 2, and burner or burners B are supported by their joints or connections q with rotatable supply pipe (i, with which gas connections are made by a suitably packed joint 4. At the opposite end said pi ie. has a crank arm or lever 5 by which the burners are Specification of Letters Patent. ippiicaioi nei im 10.19'07. serai No. 378,131.

raised and lowered to and from working p0- sitioii. i
. In operation, when hard fuel is used, such as coal or wood, the ire pot wall L is raised, as in full lines Fig. ,ani the burners are retired and hang sus )ended in chamber C out ofthe way, as in dotted lilies, Fig. 2. But when the lluid or gas l'uel is to be used wall L is swung inward into inclined position, dotted lines Fig. 2, and burners B are swung into horizontal position full lines, Fig. 2, whensaid wall L is again thrown back as in l'ull lines and becomes a support for the burners. Burners B are held in a horizontal position practically over the lirepot in a position to impart their heat directly beneath the lirst set ol openings in the top of the stove aiid to distribute the heat to the other openings as the products 0l combustion travel to the rear and downward beneath the oven lor escape. Obviously, l might provide other means than wall L for supportingl the burners in working position, and said wall might in such case be lowered when burners B are used, but the present arrangement is preferred.
What l claim is 1. A kitchen range having a chamber and a lii'e-pot open tliei'eto at its side, and a iluid burner suspended in said chamber and adapted to be swung into using position i' said lire-pot.
2. A kitchen range having la supplemental chamber next outside its fire-pot and a side wall l'or said pot pivoted at its bottom and adapted to swing from said pivot into the lire-pot and a fluid burner in said chamber.
3. A kitchen rangehaving a lire-pot and a wall at one side thereof pivoted `to turn inward at its top, combined with a burner chamber at the side of said iire-pot next to said wall and open at one side to said lireiot.
4. A kitchen range provided with a iiiepot, in combination with a [luid burner piv-` otally supported and adapted to be swunginto a horizontal position in the top of said lire-pot.
5. In kitchenranges, a range having a {ire- )ot provided with a side wall pivoted at its bottoni to swing into said pot, in eonibination with a fluid burner adapted to swing into horizontal position at the top of said firepot above said wall. .Y
6. A kitchen range having a'liiepot and a burner chainber outside said pot, and a pivyoted member adapted toclose between said pot and chamber, in combination With a fluid burner rotatably suspended in said chamber, and means projectin outside said chamber adapted to turn said urner to and from Working position.
7. In kitchen ranges, the combination of a pivotally mounted fluid burner with a pivotally mounted fire-pot lining adapted to support said burner.
' 8. In combined coal and gas ranges, a fire pot and a chamber opposite thereto having an air intake, and a fluid burner rotatably mounted-within said chamber and `adapted to be moved into said i repot. i
9. In combination, the fire-pot of a kitchen range, with a fluid burner mr ably mounted in respect thereto and adapted to rest in'itsupper portion. i'
A 10. In combination, the yfire-pot of a kitchen range, with a fluid burner movably supported in'respect thereto and adapted to 11. In combination, the ire ot of a.
kitchen range having a movable si e portion, with a fiuid burner movably supported outside of said fire-pot and adapted to rest therein, and means on the outside of said range adapted 'to actuate said respective movable arts.
In testlmony'whereof I sign this specification the presence of two witnesses.
