Description

PATENTED DEG. 1o, 1907.
B. J. RIGKBR. APPAREL GLOVE. APPLIUATION FILED SEPT, 10, 1906.
srs maar oriana BENJAMIN JEWETT RIGKER, OF GRINNELL, IOWA.
APPARE L-GLOVE no. avsoe.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patentes nee. 1.o, iso?.
Applioatimi filed September 10. 1906. Serial No. 333.943.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be tit known that I, BENJAMIN JEWETT Brenna, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grinnell, in the county of Poweshiek and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Apparel-Glove, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to provide an apparel glove especially designed for use by persons who desires to use the glove when wearing cuffs .and to inclose and protect the cuffs fromv dust and dirt and also to provide a glove' of this kind that will closely and tightly' lit the` wearers hand and wrist and have a`niaximum amount of elasticity and flexibility and yet be made of relatively thick leather that will not readily wear out, and further to -provide a glove oi' this kind that will allow a considerable degree of ventilation for the wearers hand without permitting the entrance of dust or dirt.
My invention consists in forming a glove with rows of perforations therein so arranged that they will not only serve the purposeof Ventilating the wearers hand, but will also serve to provide elasticity and flexibility at the points where the glove is bent or stretched lwhen'm use and also in the arrangement of the rows of perforations so that they will permit a certain degree of lateral expansion of the glove so that it may closely and accurately fit hands of different sizes and further in the shape of thelgauntlet portion and in Y providing a relatively stiff and heavy gauntlet portion with a flexible li-shaped gore and also with an adjusting strap so arranged that l the heavy gauntlet portions may be tightened bythe adjusting strap around the wearers wrist without affecting the still` heavy gauntlet portion and only affecting the soft flexible goreportion, as hereinafter more fullT set forth, pointed out in4 my claiins and illus- V-trated in the accompanying drawings, in
Figure i shows a rear elevation of the cornpleteglove provided with-my improvements', and 2 snows a front view of same.
`Referring to the accompanying drawings,
have used the reference numeral i0- to indicatevthe palm portion of the glove', Il the underside of the finger portions, l2 the back of the hand portion and 13 thc back of the finger portions. The thumb is indicated by the numeral le,
heavy leather and at the back of' nach linger The hand portion ol' the., glove, just referred to, i made of' relatively IIportion, I haveforrned three rows of' pen forations l5 and along both side edges of the back portion i2, l have exten l the rows of perforations to a point near the wrist and at the central portion tho back, l have extended the rows of pert'orations on the two of perforations, the finger portions may be inade to fit the wearers fingers because of forations at the back oi the fingers and the wearers hand because of the flexibility perportion of the hand, l
Furthermore the wearer may readily and easily close his hand because of the rows of the joints of the fingers. This arrangement of' the rows of perforations, whilev permitting thiol; heavy leather indicated by the referfreely admit the wcarens sleeve and cuil. the center of the bach portion of the gaun is a V-shapc opening with its sn the rear ainlspaced apart con* tance from the rear end of t This opening is covered. or t y flexible goro so that the baci; o v y ga portion adjacent to the wrist may ir l pand or contract to a certain extent so ithrough the wrist portion of the glove, the said wrist portion may be closely iit .id the wearers wrist. To providct'oi justment, l have fixed a small strap i8 to one side of' the wrist portion and a 'wid strap 19 to the other side and on the strap ,f isa slotted plateQG through which fr oiltlw strap lb is passed, as shown in i `and by polling upon this strap, the wrist clin middle fingers over thelnuckle portions of the back. By this arrangement of the rows the flexibility permitted by the rows of perglove will also tightly fit the palm of thev mitted by the rows at thesides oi' the bac/lr perorations over the knuckle portions and.
flexibility and elasticity 'of the glove in cer- The gauntlet which is preferably inadc of ence numeral 16 and is so shaped that it will so that after the wearers hand has passedlil portion of this.A glove is constricted and the strap 18 will be held in any position of its adjustment in which it vmay be placed. It may, however, be released and the @love eX- panded at the wrist by simply pulling out upon the end of the strap 19. The particular form of this fastening device comprises no part of my present invention.
In' practical use, the glove is placed upon the Wearers hand in the ordinary Way and after itis adjusted to position, the strap 18 is pulled to cause the Wrist portiony of the glove to tightly it about the .Wearers Wrist. The shape o' the gauntlet permits the Wearers cuil and-sleeve to enter it and assume'its ordinary position with relation to the Wearers hand. The rows of perforations, arranged as shown and for the purposes herein set forth, permits the glove to securely fit the Wearers hand and-fingers and to `freely, stretch at the required places when the Wearers hand is opened or closed to thus rovide a4 tight fitting glove made of 'relative y heavy leather and vl'urther venti" lation may take place through the rows of perforations.
Having thus described my invention,what
I-claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent of the United States, therefor is- 1. A n apparel glove, coinprising` a hand portion, a gauntlet portion ormed of relan erases tively stift' unyielding material, and designed te reca-ive a Wearers sleeve and culi', and formed With an opening extending from the forv: ard end portion of the gauntlet por- 3 tion to a point spaced apart from the rear end ol the gaunt et portion, a flexible gore covering said opening, and means for adjusting the parts or the gauntlet portion adjacent to said opening, whereby the end of 4 the gauntlet portion that is adjacent to the glove portion may be adjusted without affecting the rear end of the gauntlet portion.
2. .An apparel glove comprising a hand portion, a gauntlet portion connected there- 4 with, and made of relatively stiff and'unyielding matcrialfand formed with a tapered opening at the back thereof, said tapered opening having its wide end adjacent to i the hand portion, and having its small end spaced apart a considerable distance from the free end of the gauntlet, a ileXible 'gore secured in said opening, and stra s attached lon opposite sides of the opening or drawing together the end of the gauntlet adjacent to 5 the hand portion, Without affecting the bodyv of the gauntlet.
